The Susquehanna County Historical Society & Free Library Association will be hosting Dungeons & Dragons games at the Montrose Library! Don’t know what that is? Dungeons and Dragons, usually shortened to D&D, is a tabletop roleplaying game that has been around since its creation in 1974. The game is played almost exclusively using one’s imagination, though dice, rule books and sometimes maps and figurines are used to guide the gameplay. The popularity of the game has inspired multiple movies, with the most recent released in 2023. The Netflix series Stranger Things features D&D heavily throughout the show’s run and has led to a resurgence in popularity for the game. People now tune in to watch other people play D&D on streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch, as well as on podcasts. One of the most popular is Critical Role. Sound like something you’d like to try?
Join us for two sessions of Dungeons & Dragons designed for those who are new to the game. The game will be run by Bailey, a local who has worked as a professional Game Master for 6 years and played tabletop games for more than a decade. His bio states, “I’ve had the pleasure of running games for hundreds of people all over the world and I’m excited to run one for you! I pride myself on building fun narratives with my players and running balanced gameplay where your decisions matter. I’m especially passionate for fantasy of all types and science fiction.”
The games will be on two Saturdays, May 23rd and May 30th at the Montrose Library, from 11:30am - 3:00pm. There is a one time fee of $5 to reserve your spot at both session dates and there is a limit of 8 individuals. Sign up at any branch location. While we believe D&D is suitable for all ages, we’re limiting participants to ages 12 and up, with minors accompanied by an adult. If there is enough interest, we hope to make this a regular club. Questions? You can call the Montrose Library at 570-278-1881.
