Allison Wright In ESUDT Musical

East Stroudsburg University's Department of Theatre (ESUDT) will present Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved musical Into the Woods. The cast of students, directed by Jason Narvy, Ph.D., welcomed audiences Thursday, March 26 through Sunday, March 29. The cast and crew of ESU students includes Allison Wright from New Milford, PA.

All performances were in the Smith McFarland Theatre of the university's Fine Arts Building, East Stroudsburg.

Into the Woods intertwines classic fairy tales-including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, into a richly layered story exploring wishes, consequences, and what happens after “happily ever after.” With Sondheim's iconic score and Lapine's witty, thought-provoking book, the musical blends humor and heart with deeper reflections on community, responsibility, and moral choice.

Narvy, assistant professor of theatre, brings a fresh perspective to this celebrated work, guiding ESU student performers through both the whimsical fantasy and the emotional complexity that define the show. Into the Woods challenges performers and audiences alike to look beyond simple fairy-tale endings. It's a story about growth, accountability, and the power of human connection.

The cast of Into the Woods includes Allison Wright, a sophomore majoring in theatre and Spanish, as Lucinda.
