Elk Lake Elementary Students Of Month

Mr. Marc Weisgold, Elementary Principal at the Elk Lake School, is pleased to announce the January, 2018 Student of the Month Award winners.

Students in Kindergarten through 6th grade were selected by their homeroom teachers. Elk Lake is proud of our students and congratulates them for their accomplishments.

Repsol Supports Choconut Valley

Jan. 26, 2018, Choconut, PA: Repsol Oil and Gas USA, LLC, a fully integrated oil and gas company operating in the Northern Tier, is giving back to the community with a $4,300 donation to the Choconut Valley Elementary School.

The donation will support Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, including the procurement of a programmable 3-D printer, circuit boards, learning modules and other tools that can be used by students for many years. This project, the direct result of the grant writing efforts of Mr. Craig Owens, Director of Technology for the Montrose Area School District, will be used to help create a "maker space" located in the Choconut Valley Elementary Science Lab.

Repsol, one of the world's leading integrated, global oil and gas companies, purchased Talisman Energy in 2015.

SCCTC Students Prepare Buffets

Food Management students at the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center prepared a Christmas Buffet on December 19, 2017. Over 90 people enjoyed the holiday meal with the showcase being a Steamship of Beef that was carved to order by senior student Christian Good.

When the students returned from Christmas Break, they immediately got to work preparing the New Year’s Buffet for 70 people. There was Corn Chowder, Salad, Swedish Meatballs, Pork Tenderloin, Chicken and Biscuits and more.

The Food Management Program hosts special buffets throughout the school year along with a Prime Rib dinner each month. The student-run restaurant provides a real-life learning environment for the students, from customer service to meal planning and execution.

Sydney Kostick On UA Dean's List

Sydney Taylor Kostick of Nicholson, PA, was named to The University of Alabama's Dean's List for fall, 2017. A total of 12,594 students enrolled during the 2017 fall semester at UA were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students.

Olivia Vosburg On CC Dean's List

Olivia Vosburg, of Meshoppen, PA was named to the Cazenovia College fall, 2017 Dean's List. Vosburg is majoring in Environmental Biology.

Vosburg was among 229 students honored for their academic achievement during the Fall 2017 semester. Those named to the Dean's List have achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average.

Local Students On WU Dean's List

Wilkes University Provost Dr. Anne Skleder announced the Dean's List for the Fall 2017 Semester. To be named to the Dean's List, students must obtain a minimum 3.4 grade point average and carry at least 12 credits.

Local Students On NCC Dean's List

Luke Wildenstein, Forest City and Derek Stento, New Milford quaklified for the fall, 2017 Dean's List at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA. The honor is reserved for students who have completed a minimum of 6 credits and achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in the fall 2017 semester.

Local Students Graduate WU

Wilkes University awarded 369 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees when it held its winter commencement ceremony on Sunday, January 21. The event occurred at 1 p.m. in the Henry Gymnasium of the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center, 274 South Franklin St. in Wilkes-Barre.

Geneva College announced that Victoria Hinds and Caleb Hoal both qualified for the Dean's List of undergraduate students for the fall, 2017 semester. To be eligible for this recognition, students in traditional programs must earn a GPA of at least 3.6 while passing 12 credit hours or more.
