It was a shocking act of perfidy. Candidate Donald Trump, before tens of thousands at his rallies vowed time and time again "No more amnesties." And as always, the crowd roared its approval. Those three words carried him into the White House.
Then, just days ago, President Trump did an about-face. He now supported Deferred Amnesty for Childhood Aliens (DACA). The keyword is Amnesty.
"We're going to morph into it; it's going to happen over a period of 10-12 years. If somebody's worked hard if they've done a great job, it gives you an incentive to do a great job," said President Trump.
He continued: "They've worked hard. They've done terrifically. If they did a great job, I think it's a nice thing to have the incentive after a period of time to become a citizen."
In one fell swoop, he trashed his word, abandoned his base, cast a pail over conservatives as well as the GOP; and by granting illegal immigrants priority to citizenship over those who followed the legal path to citizenship, he made them appear to be on a fools' errand. All this without evincing any awareness of the consequences of his actions.
This goes a step beyond shameful. It gives a sobering insight into the president's character, if not his mental stability as well.
The new deal for DACAs was spelled out in a highly-detailed, 250-page bill. The document was leaked to gauge the reactions of his base, the DACAs and the Democrats. It was slammed. No one had anything good to say about it.
Un-oh! It's time for damage control.
No, no, said the president. The DACA bill was only a ploy, a trick to display the GOP's good faith as opposed to the Democrats' political cynicism.
"I have offered DACA a wonderful deal, including a doubling in the number of recipients and a twelve-year pathway to citizenship to show that Democrats do not want to solve DACA, only use it," the president said.
Many believed him; a few did not, including this Trump backer. It sounded too clever by half.
Consider: The 250-page new deal for DACAs spelled out a plan for illegal migrants to become voting citizens. It must have taken weeks to prepare.
Can anyone believe that this was some off-the-cuff ruse, a scheme to show the hypocrisy of the Democrats?
The inch-thick bill required a $25 billion set-aside, for an undefined "tactical infrastructure," not a wall. However, the legislation does not depend on the construction, let alone completion of this "tactical infrastructure," whatever that is.
In other words, no wall.
The bill also allows the backlogged four million people in the chain-migration pipeline until 2035 to enter the US. Couple this with the inflow of one million new legal immigrants each year and it ensures increased pressure on Americans' wages.
But not to worry. Remember, the president's voluminous DACA document was only bait to show the deceitfulness of the Democrats' negotiation with DACA.
But if that's not so, if the DACA bill was not just a clever tactic but a real vehicle for millions of aliens to travel across the Mexican/US border, then pro-Trump voters were betrayed.
That being the case, then maybe we, all of us, should be more than a little worried.
Sincerely,
Bob Scroggins, New Milford, PA
You have probably read that Dr.Bernard Nathanson performed over 50,000 abortions. Then Dr.Bernard witnessed an Ultra Sound of a baby wiggling while being cut up into pieces! He changed his mind and wrote "The Silent Scream", then converted from an Atheist to a Pro-Life believer.
Now you should know about 2 websites that are very informed about Ultra Sound. The websites are Daily Signal and Life Site News-January 25,2018 edition. This website explains about a very young woman who was 15-16 weeks pregnant, went to an abortion provider and left with a bleeding womb after a botched abortion. She and her boyfriend then went into a Planned Parenthood facility to find out what went wrong and why she was bleeding. Her much older boyfriend did not want a baby and told her she must have an abortion, against her wishes.
Planned Parenthood decided to take a rare Ultra Sound of the young lady. (Planned Parenthood does not like to use and show views of a baby in the womb, because it discourages a woman to have an abortion.)
Two of the Planned Parenthood staff gasped in disbelief when they realized that she had quadruplets! There were 4 babies that were identical boys! The babies were holding hands with each other! Many of the staff cried after they cleaned out the young woman's womb and realized how wrong it was to have 4 young, innocent, identical boys needlessly cut up.
Some of the staff resigned from Planned Parenthood, because they were ashamed of what they witnessed or what they did.
Do any of you Pro-Choice believers still believe in baby killing? Why?
Sincerely,
Bruce Moorhead, Susquehanna,Pa.
A travesty is happening in this country to the Family Farmer. Family Farmers are being paid prices for the food they produce that are the same as thirty to forty years ago, with cost of inputs increasing weekly, and all of this without a cost of living raise.
If you like getting food from other countries, where their inspection standards are subpar, then stop reading this letter right now. There is so much being imported that we could produce here, if it wasn't for the multinational corporations that want to get rid of the family farm.
We are tired of some of those in "officialdom" telling us to get “more efficient.” Farm Women United (FWU) was formed to fight for the family farms that normally do not have a voice at the table. You may say that there are other organizations out there that are fighting, and you are right; there are a few, but there are more that want to get rid of the small to mid-size family farms than keep them.
FWU is unique because it is made up of women who present the farm woman’s point of view about the farm and food crisis that threatens our nation’s rural communities and, therefore, our food supply. We stand beside our family, our spouse, or significant other, doing the farm work, only to see how low prices are making them depressed, some to the point that they take their own lives. This needs to stop! Spread the word about Farm Women United. We can use all the members that we can get to help us fight this fight. It is not going to be easy. The more voices we have making the chatter, the more seriously they will take us.
If you would like to help, check out our website, www.farmwomenunited.org. We are currently running a “Green Ribbon Campaign” to support the family farms. If you would like a ribbon, let us know and we will send you one. Stand with us in getting fairer prices for our family farms. Our co-ops aren't doing it. Our milk processors aren't doing it. Our food handlers aren't doing it. We are no longer going to stand by waiting for something to be done or for a federal Farm Bill to be drafted without any input from us. Most Americans do not realize how much food we import or from what countries we are importing. Support your local farmers by visiting and buying from local farms or farm markets. They are in most of the larger cities around the country and in smaller towns, too.
The time is now for us to take control of our food again. Visit our website and check it out. Feel free to contact FWU through our website under Contact Us. If you are not a farm woman but would like to support FWU, you can wear a green ribbon to support family farms.
If we lose our family farms, we lose our nation's domestic food supply.
Sincerely,
Tina Carlin, Communications Director FWU
