Christmas Eve Service At Montrose Evangelical

Why not take a break from the busyness of the Christmas season and spend some time reflecting on the meaning of it all? The Montrose Evangelical Free Church invites the community to join their annual Christmas Eve celebration. There is something unique about gathering together at night, on the eve of this holy day. The special music that is played and sung envelops the evening with an aura of anticipation. The Scriptures that are read remind all of the true account leading up to and including Christ’s birth. Hear the message of God’s love and grace, a message that brings hope and joy to the world in which we live.

The church meets at 675 Lake Avenue on the upper campus of the Montrose Bible Conference. The Christmas Eve service will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information visit www.MontroseEFree.org or call 278-4500.

Episcopal Church Christmas Services

Three of the Episcopal churches in Susquehanna County have announced their service schedule for their Christmas observances.

On Christmas Eve four services will be offered. A Christmas Festival of Lessons and Carols with Eucharist will be offered at 4:00 p.m. at Christ Church, Susquehanna. A family-oriented service will be offered at 6:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Montrose. Candlelight Solemn Eucharist will be offered at 8:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, New Milford; carol singing will precede the service. Candlelight “Midnight Mass” will be offered at 11:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s in Montrose; festival music and carols will begin at 10:30 p.m. before the Eucharist begins.

Luminaria will be lit at all of the services before the services. A luminaria or a farolito is a small light or lantern (commonly a candle set in some sand inside a paper bag) which is of significance among New WorldHispanics at Christmas time which lead the holy family to safe lodging.

On Christmas Day the Eucharist for Christmas Day will be offered at St. Paul’s in Montrose at 10:00 a.m.

On December 26 Eucharist will be offered at 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s. At 12 noon all three parishes will join together in the great hall of St. Paul’s for a festive celebration of Christmas with a Procession of Christmas Lessons and Carols, the Eucharist and feasting on Boxing Day. The dinner is free; those wishing to attend are asked to call the church to make reservations by December 23 at 570-278-2954.

All three churches are welcoming and affirming churches in the Anglican tradition.

Annual Christmas Dinner

The 10th annual Christmas Dinner, sponsored by Endless Mountains Health Systems staff and friends, will be held on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25 at 12 noon. The annual dinner is held at the Montrose Senior Center, Church Street, Montrose, PA. The free dinner began ten years ago so no one in Montrose and the neighboring communities would have to eat alone.

The guests will be treated to roast turkey, ham, and delicious mashed potatoes, which are furnished by the women of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Staff, employees and friends contribute casseroles, pies, cookies and fruit platters.

Friends and members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints will serve as waiters and Renee Tyler will lead an impromptu carol sing. St. Paul's Church will present corsages and boutonnières to each guest. Staff, employees and friends will prepare the tables and service while another group of 20 employees and friends arrive to assist with the clean up of the tables.

The raffle of donated centerpieces is a highlight of the day and there are always many, many winners. All are welcome to join in for food and fellowship!
