He Meets The Requirements

The office of District Attorney of Susquehanna County is not vacant. William Urbanski was duly sworn in and does meet the requirements to do so. The residents of Susquehanna County are entitled to be represented in the position of the District Attorney by someone who was hand picked by the candidate the county chose - Bob Klein - to insure the plans and methods of the office are continued as Mr. Klein would have done. Only candidates for an election must pass the requirements recently stated in our papers. This argument is now being taken to the Supreme Court of PA. I would ask all of our residents to pray fervently with me and my family that the PA Supreme Court affirms Mr. Urbanski's position and allows him to continue the work begun by Bob Klein.

Sincerely,

Annette Corrigan, Jackson Township

The Real Purpose Of DACA

The press calls them Dreamers; young migrants from South America who dream of a better life. They are the cream-d-la cream of third-world children bereft of parents, seeking refuge in the United States. Finally, they reach the end of their journey; the US/Mexico border.

Not to grant them a path toward US citizenship would be an injustice. By this time, most Dreamers have become de facto Americans.

The arrivals are the recipients of Obama's 2012 illegal executive order titled, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, DACA.

Many of these newcomers are students intent on continuing their education; some want to serve in the military, while others are qualified to launch a promising civilian career.

They have only a distant memory of their birthplace and native language. The DACAs are conversant in English and have been so Americanized that to return them to their homeland where customs and language would be as foreign to them as it would be for any American to be deposited in some unfamiliar South American nation.

What piddle-paddle! Forget those media myths and misguided maternal sympathies. It's time for some hard facts about DACA.

Dreamers didn't toddle into the US clutching their teddy bears and dollies. The average age of DACA 's "Childhood" enrollees in 2012 was 25; now the "children" are entering their thirties.

One study showed that 25 percent were illiterate in English and another 45 percent had only limited ability to speak, read, and write in the language of their adopted country.

About 75 percent of DACAs lack a high school education. And that patriotic choice of achieving citizenship via the military? Forget it. A Pentagon report showed that only 8 percent chose the military, but no evaluation is published on the quality of these recruits.

While most illegals---and DACAs are illegal--- could eke out a subsistence living in their homeland, few can do so in the US.

DACAs are insufficiently educated, having only a rudimentary command of English, and unprepared and unskilled to enter the US workforce.

A report issued by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) found that "Of households headed by legal immigrants without a high school diploma, 75 percent use one or more welfare programs."

Having a high School diploma doesn't make much of a difference. FAIR reported that 64 percent of households headed by legal immigrants with a high school education depended on government assistance.

One assumes that illegal immigrants will fare no better. DACAs next destination is the queue for federal aid and government assistance.

The cost? FAIR calculated that the total government expenditure for illegal immigration in 2017 was $135 billion.

Spending $135 billion to support illegal immigrants is plain nuts. Immigrants should be an asset, not a liability.

And amnesties do not solve the problem; they make it worse. Amnesty incurs the added and permanent costs of providing education, welfare, and other social services.

What's next?

Although Pres. Trump is against chain immigration, which admits all relatives of an immigrant, he is for a limited form of this policy which accepts the wives and children of immigrants.

Let's run the numbers on Trump's DACA deal.

About 800,000 are enrolled in DACA. Another 500,000 are eligible but not yet registered. That's 1.3 million (other sources put it at 1.75 million). We'll assume that 70 percent are married. Add their wives and the average of 2.5 children/family. Finally, add the 30 percent of unmarried DACAs. It totals 4.5 million; yet another tidal surge of immigrants.

Further, these prospective citizens are as far-and-away from the purported "cream-d-la cream" as is a steak dinner from a baloney sandwich.

The only good deal for DACA is no deal.

What's next after next?

It pays to be a line-jumper. It's the fast lane toward citizenship. While others wait patiently in line, the illegals, that's DACA, take precedence. It also explains why all past seven amnesties were followed by an upsurge in illegal border crossings.

Which brings us to the real purpose of DACA.

DACA is nothing more than a Democrat scheme to boost their party's membership. Eighty percent of legalized DACAs will vote for the Blues. DACA will add millions of voters to the Democrat roles while the American taxpayer gets rolled to pay for this influx of Democrats. Cute.

It seems that the Democrat donkey is becoming more elephantine, while the Republican elephant is beginning to look like a scrawny ass.

Sincerely,

Bob Scroggins, New Milford, PA
