David R. Brown

David R. Brown, 70, of Thompson, PA entered into rest on March 25, 2017.  He was the son of the late Richard and Ellen Brown.

David is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Dan) Ray; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Matthew Ray; sister, Marjorie (Harry) Marvin; two nieces, Teri (Richard) Fancher and Tedi Warner; two nephews, Todd (Bianca) Warner and Troy (Wendy) Warner.

Prior to his retirement, David worked for IBM and Lockheed Martin, Owego, NY for over 25 years.  He moved to Coxton Lake following his retirement, where he enjoyed the wildlife and many outdoor activities of every season, especially cutting wood and snowmobiling.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and his companion, April Clark.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 29 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Father Fredrick Thomas Crowley

Father Thomas Crowley passed away after an extended illness at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Jane Crowley, and brother, Dick Crowley.

Father Crowley was born in Susquehanna, PA and graduated from Laurel Hill Academy in 1968.

Continuing his education at St. Bonaventure and Christ the King Seminary he was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1976 with the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., for 41 years and held numerous assignments during his tenure there.

Father Crowley’s last assignment was the St. Francis Xavier Parish, which is one of the oldest parishes in the original 13 colonies, where he was under the direction of Cardinal His Eminence Donald Cardinal Wuerl. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Father Crowley is survived by his sister, Kay (Tom) Culnane, Susquehanna, PA; nephew, Chris (Danielle) Carpenter, Cary NC; niece, Lea Ann Stengel; great nieces and nephews, Kalei, Madison, Trey, Hudson, Cru.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the St. John’s Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Susquehanna, PA on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10am.

James Paul White, Sr.

James P. White, Sr., 67, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017, surrounded by his family at the Highlands Care Center, LaPorte, PA, due to a battle of diabetes and lung cancer.

James is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Eleanor (Hughes) White and a brother, David White.

He is survived by his wife, Alice (Weibel) White; four children; sons, Jim and wife Jill, New Milford, PA, Robert and fiancé, Aileen, Eaton, NJ; daughters, Debra White and Lisa (White) Welsch and husband, Michael, Hallstead, PA; also three sisters, Marcia, Joyce and Patti Ann, Susquehanna, PA ;and a brother, Allen, Scranton, PA; four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Welsch, and twins, Kyle and Kaitlin White.

James was a graduate of Susquehanna Community School, Susquehanna, PA.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force.  He worked for many years for PennDOT.  James was a member of the American Legion Post #86 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #794, both of Susquehanna, PA.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

At the family’s request, a memorial service will be held at a later date.  The family wishes to thank the staff and Doctors and the Highlands Care Center for the time and care given to their father/brother during his stay there.  He is at peace now and no longer in pain.

Roy G. Hurlburt

Roy Gene Hurlburt, age 69, of Lecanto, FL passed away on October 26, 2016 at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Roy was born on October 3, 1947 in Harmony Township, PA to the late Bernard and Mary Regina (Musa) Hurlburt.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. After his military service, Roy was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 35 years.

On March 2, 1971, he married Mary Foley, with whom he shared 45 loving years of marriage. 5 years ago, Roy and Mary made Citrus County their home after relocating from Susquehanna, PA.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Roy also liked collecting vintage items, going to yard sales and reading the daily news. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary, those left to mourn Roy's passing are his daughters, Lynn Marie Maloney and her husband, Terrence of Buckingham, PA, Christie Lynn Hurlburt and her significant other, Robert John Lucke of Vestal, NY; brothers, Bernard Hurlburt, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Jackson, PA, Roger Hurlburt and his wife, Dorothy of Lecanto, FL; sister, Sandra Franks and her husband, Thomas of Great Bend, PA; grandchildren, Colton Marvin, Michael Marvin, Erin Whitney and her husband, Nicklaus, Kevin Crawford; great-grandchildren, Owen Whitney, Logan Whitney, Fletcher Whitney; brother-in-law, Marvin Foley and his wife, Jacqueline of Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, Linda Brown and her husband, Tim of Cookeville, TN; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parent's, Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Skellett.

 A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Hennessy's Furneral Home on April 8th, 2017 at 10am. In addition to Roy's service, Ralph and Theresa Lee's ashes will also be present. 

Betty J. Cavanaugh

Betty Cavanaugh, 88 of Susquehanna, PA passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

She was predeceased by her husband, George of 58 years in 2003; her parents, Bruce and Theresa Munson; brother, Tom; sons-in-law, Raymond Ayres and John Stanek.

Betty is survived by her sons, Don, Larry, and Tim (companion Cindy); daughters, Virginia Ayres, Kathy (Ozzie) Miller, and Sue Stanek (companion Rob); fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special sister, Juanita Simcox; sisters-in-law, Coralee Cavanaugh and Rhoda Munson.

Betty worked for the Barnes Kasson Hospital and SNF for over 50 years. Her years were spent as head of the dietary department and her last years at the hospital were fulfilled providing smiles, helping hands and just an ear to listen to all of the residents in the activities department in SNF. Betty made it a point to make everyone’s day brighter by bringing a constant presence. She fought her battle with cancer with all she had and never gave up. Her family was so proud of her strength and love that she showed to them and everyone she met over the years. “Mom we will love you forever.”

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Sara Armetta, Dr. P. Patel and all the departments at the Barnes Kasson Hospital (Betty’s second home) for the kindness and care over the past few weeks. Also, Thank You to Mary Pat and Helen, who were her hospice caretakers.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 4pm at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA, with Pastor Gary Day officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 2 to 4pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Barnes Kasson SNF, Susquehanna, PA 18847 towards chairs for the resident’s dining room.
