Letters to the Editor Policy

Sick Of Hearing It

I am quite sick of hearing the term "Obama Care", it is disrespectful of our president.

Quite frankly, if he put into "Obama Care" the fixed amount that the senators and congressmen get for health care maybe they would shut their traps.

I feel, he as President of USA, should go after Paul Ryan, and the Republican party and confront them on the name calling.

Politicians have the nack of keeping the people separated and divided and even use religion to keep themselves elected, letting us think that they still believe in God part of their swearing in! I am a Democrat but as a catholic, I don't believe in abortion. My feelings on abortion never should have become a "political issue" to be used as a platform to get someone elected.

Is because I am a Democrat,  support the liberal people who are mostly the poor in the eyes of the church, sinning? I know it sure gives the other political party a talking point.

Maybe we should call anything that Paul Ryan says ,"Ryans Lier" and see if he likes it! That would be an eye for and eye and that would bring church and state back into it!

Sincerely,

Peter A.Seman

Not "Black or White"

There seems to be a new term floating about; the term is "White Hispanic." It seems, today, some are combining a persons color with their ethnic background. George Zimmerman is case in point: His color seems to be the same as an "African" correctional officer that he is standing next to on the way into jail. In my younger years a half-black and half-white is a "Mulatto." Let us see, a black person who is half-black and half-white is now a "White-Black" or is he or she a "White African American?"

What do we now call a half-Indian and half-white? What kind of Indian; one from North America or one from India. They, a North American Indian, who is half-white and half-red was once a "Half-breed." Now, what do we call them? Do we call them a "White-Red North American" or do we call them a "White-Navajo" or a "White-Cherokee North American." What is more confusing, what do we call Chaz Bono? Perhaps we shall consult Cher.

There was a time, perhaps my memory is wrong, but Italians were not white; we are olive or black, today we are white. What shade of "White" do we now call someone: Hence, do you classify me as a "White-white," "Egg White," "Off White," "Bright White," or "Whiter than White?" It is all "White" with me (get it).

What do we now call an "Oreo" Cookie? Do we now call it a "Black-white" cookie? I use to have a "Black and White" Television, was this description appropriate or inappropriate?

Perhaps, and is it fair to say, we must call or classify President Obama as a "White-African- Hawaiian."

Sincerely,

Larry Gary

In Their Own Words...

At a Candidates’ Forum held on April 14, 2011, two candidates for County Commissioner gave the following answers to this question: What is your motivation for seeking the position of commissioner?

Candidate Fred Baker: “I am totally against corruption. I am totally against the violation of Sunshine Laws and if I were permitted to continue with the rest of the information I had..you would see that I not only have a total and complete disregard for..the lack of courtesy and respect for the public from our county...employees...the Sunshine Law being violated by the short meetings..it’s not just the short meetings...they also..hide stuff that’s been going on...Folks, do you know that we had a $40,000 dollar lawsuit paid in this county for a ...Federal violation of civil rights..of one the members of...our community...$40,000 dollars and it was for four days that they violated his rights..it was $10,000 a day....We have things going on in this county that ...that are not ...known to the public...One thing in particular...the format of meetings being changed to where it’s vote by item instead of explaining what each thing is for and ...letting the public have their input...Each one of these items are what they’re voting on...Item 1...Item 2...Item 3...and no one knows what they are...These meetings were reformatted at about the same time that they would’ve had to bring out to the public that they had to pay [for] ...this civil rights violation...”

Candidate Alan Hall: “I think the likeliest thing that...I have a problem with at the county level is that there’s no plan... there’s no five year plan, there’s no ten year plan and in business where I come from we have five year plans.. we have ten year plans. It seems like the plan is whatever the plan is of the day. I see that the things that go on at the county...there’s too much of a good old boys syndrome going on ... if you’re on the right side of the...hallway then you’re well taken care of...if you’re not, then you’re not taken care of.....I believe that... we’ve got to get these things open back up...we’ve got to get public input...we’ve got to serve the public instead of having the public serve us....and that’s the biggest problem I see...they’re [the commissioners] not doing what we want them to do...they’re doing what they want to do....and that has to change...”

On Tuesday, November 8, 2011 the voters elected Alan Hall the new County Commissioner, with salary and benefits equaling, at the time, $71,475.48.

To be continued.....Wolves In Sheeps’ Clothing.

Sincerely,
