SCCTC Raises Funds For United Way

Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center Cosmetology teachers, Sue Birtch, Amy Bush, and Kim Cosklo, recently held a Red and Green Out fundraiser. The three wanted to do something around the holidays to help out needy families in our area and thought of the United Way.

During the Red and Green Out, Elk Lake Elementary students were invited to the Cosmetology room at SCCTC. For $2.00 each, elementary students were able to receive services from cosmetology students, such as red and green hair gel in hair, French braid, manicure, facial, shampoo and style. The Red and Green Out was a week-long event that was able to raise $1,000.00 for the United Way.

Dollars raised will be distributed to a family in need during the 2012 Christmas Season. According to Amy Bush, Cosmetology teacher, “the elementary students love it and the cosmetology students get to perform their tasks on the elementary students. As instructors we think that this is a win-win situation, it benefits the elementary students and it benefits my cosmetology students because they get to practice in a real salon setting. Our goal here at SCCTC Cosmetology Department is to help out our community as much as we can!”
