County To Read “The Hunger Games”

The Susquehanna County Reads Committee is pleased to announce the fifth year of the County Reads program. The book is “The Hunger Games,” a recent release and New York Times bestselling novel by Suzanne Collins. “The Hunger Games” is the first in her series of post-apocalyptic novels and though the books are written for a young adult audience, they have been very widely enjoyed in an adult market.

Residents of Susquehanna County can register and get their own copy of the book starting Wednesday, March 7 at any county library. Those who register will be able to participate in several exciting programs and events, such as a panel book discussion, a “Wilderness Survival” day at Salt Springs, and much more!

Major Announces Lakewood Hours

HARRISBURG - On Thursday, March 8, between 10 a.m. and noon, Rep. Sandra Major (R-Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) will be hosting satellite office hours at the Preston Township Building on Crosstown Highway (Route 370) in Lakewood.

“I make these office hours available in order to offer greater convenience for those residents who do not live or work near one of my two permanent district offices in Montrose and Tunkhannock,” said Major. “There are many services my offices provide and I encourage anyone who may be in need of assistance with a state-related matter to make use of the satellite office.”

Passport Day At Susky Post Office

The Susquehanna Post Office is hosting a special passport event in Susquehanna on Saturday, March 10, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications. The Susquehanna Post Office is joining the Department of State in celebrating Passport Day in the USA 2012, a national passport acceptance and outreach program.

U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.

Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778.

Water Aerobics For Seniors

Do you enjoy swimming? Are you age 60 or older? Come join the fun on Monday and Wednesday evenings from March 5 to May 23; or Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from March 27 to May 24 at the Elk Lake High School Pool. Water Aerobics is available from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays or from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both classes are offered at no cost through the Area Agency on Aging’s Prime Time Health program. Register for the Water Aerobics classes by calling the Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-982-4346.

Prime Time Health is a wellness and prevention program for older adults. The goal of Prime Time Health is to provide information and encouragement to help older adults make choices to maintain or improve their health and create an ongoing wellness attitude.
