Lakeside Players To Present The Love List

We’ve all imagined what our ideal mate would be like. In “The Love List,” The Lakeside Players’ new comedy, two bachelors learn a hard-but-hilarious lesson when the woman of their dreams actually arrives on their doorstep.

The side-splitting and thought-provoking comedy will run June 3-5 and 10-12 at Lakeville Community Hall, Route 590, Lakeville. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 3 p.m.

Written by Norm Foster, “The Love List” features two middle-aged friends, Leon and Bill, who concoct a list of attributes of the ideal woman - the top 10 best qualities in a mate. When this allegedly perfect woman actually shows up, the men quickly learn their list could use a few revisions. The old adage, “Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it,” leads to unpredictable results in this sparkling comic hit. “The Love List” stars Frank DeSando as Bill, Mike Lally as Leon and Roxan Schwartz as Justine. Schwartz also directed.

Children’s Choir Performance Upcoming

Revolution of the Heart through Song is the theme of the fourth Lithuanian Heritage Day to be held at the Anthracite Heritage Museum at McDade Park in Scranton, on Sunday, July 31, at 1:00 p.m.

There will be a special showing of the movie “The Singing Revolution,” a chronicle of how “singing” brought about the collapse of the Soviet Satellite Totalitarian Government Rule as it began and grew into Estonia. The Singing Revolution also took root in Larvia and Lithuania. The day’s events will include a choral tribute to an American Lithuanian choral director from northeastern Pennsylvania who exemplified, in every aspect of his being, the value of song, Boris Voreris. The day’s events will conclude with a presentation by the Endless Mountains Children’s Choir under the direction of the American Polish Lithuanian choral director Dr. Christine Plonski Sezer.

Pictured above, the Endless Mountains Children’s Choir at United States Military Academy at West Point.

The documentary movie chronicles the independence movement of the Singing Revolution as it began and grew in the geographical center of Europe on August 23, 1989; the three Baltic nations stood together arm and arm in a human chain that spanned their three states and sang. The crucial choice these people made for freedom and against the temptation of violence is visceral, awe inspiring and an example for all. A number of human endeavors at revolution will pale when you witness the nonviolent power of song change the world.

Clifford resident Dr. Carol Gargan, Vice President of the American Association of the Friends of Kosciuszko at West Point, and co-coordinator of the Anthracite Heritage Museum and many cultural events in the area, invited the Children’s Choir to perform on Lithuanian Heritage Day exemplifying “singing” as a keynote at the ceremony.

Event To Honor Longtime Firemen

Susquehanna County is built on volunteerism, and that is no more evident than the selfless dedication given over the years by the many area volunteer firemen.

The Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce honors a Citizen of the Year each year, and decided, with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaching, that honoring local firemen would be one way to commemorate the service of those who answered the call on that fateful day in American history. The Chamber will honor all those firemen who have given 50 years or more of service in the Chamber's area - which is defined by the boundaries of the Montrose and Elk Lake School districts.

The approximately 30 men being honored on June 15 are a hearty bunch, having served as firemen, assistant chiefs, chiefs and company officers throughout the years. They've not only given their time and efforts to putting out fires, but also given innumerable hours to each company's annual fund raising efforts. Carnivals, bingo, breakfasts, suppers, barbecues and more - the fire companies, along with their auxiliaries, have raised money to buy trucks and equipment, build fire halls and augment their training.

The firemen will be honored at a dinner set for 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, at the Montrose Bible Conference main dining hall on Lake Avenue. The public is invited to attend and help honor those who not only serve with, but helped create some of the area volunteer companies.

Mark Wood, former Coordinator of the Susquehanna County Emergency Management Agency, will be MC for the event. Some local fire fighting history will be offered by third generation fire fighter and United Fire Company member Pat Daly, Esq. Entertainment will include a vocal offering by Eagle Scout Jacob Myers.

Gathering begins at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30. The deadline for reservations is June 10. For more information or to make a reservation, please call 570-278-3062.

"One World, Many Stories" (ages 0-12), "You Are Here" (teens), and "Novel Destinations" (adults) are sponsored in part by the United Way of Susquehanna County. Special events and storytimes will take place each week.
