PHILIP D. ALLEN JR.

Philip D. Allen Jr., 62, of Summersville, PA was mercifully released into to the arms of the angels on May 8, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Cyndi.

He is survived by his beloved children, Trisha (Harold) Schiefen, Megan (James) Chang, Asa Allen, Chris “Tater” Allen; one granddaughter, Alyssa Scheifen; his mother, Laura Mae Allen; a sister, Lucinda Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by a nephew, Daniel Phillips; and his father, Philip D. Allen Sr.

Philip was born in Wellsburg, NY on October 3, 1949. He was a delivery engineer for Saulsbury Fire Apparatus, Service Center Division. He started working in the fire truck industry at the age of 16 and spent his entire career working with fire apparatus. He was also known as “Fire Truck Phil.” He was a life time member of Columbia Hose Company, New Milford, PA. Philip was an avid outdoors man and a member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman's Club. He was good with his hands and was our family's problem solver and could fix anything.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home.

Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the Columbia Hose Company, P.O. Box 198, New Milford, PA 18834.

JOANNE W. THOMAS

Joanne W. Thomas, 69, of Hallstead, PA passed away on May 10, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Haydn R. “Tommy” Thomas for almost 49 years.

Joanne is survived by three children, Lisa Thomas and Peter Wofford, Charleston, SC, Lloyd Thomas, Hallstead, PA, and Tommy and Leslie Thomas, Greenwood, SC; four grandchildren, Emma Claire, Hunter, Morgan, and Avery; her father, James McCreary; two sisters, Sandy and Bill Llewellyn and Tina McCreary; a sister-in-law, Ann and Bob Hunter; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Kathleen McCreary; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hayden and Dorothy Thomas.

Joanne was a talented artist, making stained glass windows, and embraced the arts. She assisted her husband and son running the Outdoorsman, Inc. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hallstead, PA. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was an enthusiastic golfer.

A funeral service was held on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA. Interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 370, Hallstead, PA 18822.

RONALD ROBERT PICKERING “REGGIE”

Ronald Robert Pickering, 57, of Hayes Street, Great Bend, PA, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, PA after an illness.

Ronald was born in Susquehanna the son of the late Hollis Pickering & Dolores (Williams) Branning.

He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years Sandra “Sanford” (Tapper) Pickering; three daughters and sons-in-law Tonya & Larry Medlar, Teresa & Thomas Ballard, Tara & Timothy Bedford; brother and sister-in-law Lawrence & Margaret Pickering; sister Carol Paquette and Peter Niven; seven grandchildren Brittany, Connor and Cooper Medlar, Stephanie and Ryan Ballard, Tayla and TyAnn Bedford; many nieces and nephews.

Ronald was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He was a former member of the Erie Hose Fire Dept. and life member of the VFW #6223 of Great Bend and member of the American Legion Post #86 of Susquehanna and American Legion Post #357 of Hallstead. Ron owned and operated Ron Pickering Trucking, for many years. He was an avid hunter and a member of the Oak Ridge Sportsmen Club. Ron will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

The funeral service was held on Saturday May 14, 2011, at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna with Rev. Kenneth Tapper and Rev. Norman Bright officiating.

Burial was in the North Jackson Cemetery in North Jackson, PA.

LUCIE L. MESHENSKY

Lucie L. Meshensky, 90, of Montrose, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, NY, after a brief illness. She was born in Mildred, PA to the late Peter A. and Stephanna (Kramitz) Meshensky.

Surviving are her brother, Alec W. Meshensky, Montrose, PA; sister, Stella A. Adams, Castro Valley, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Lucie attended Holy Name of Mary Church. She worked as a nurse throughout the triple cities, including Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton General, Wilson Hospital and the New York State Psychiatric Ward State Hospital, where she was a supervisor. She also did private duty with several Doctors offices. She was a seamstress, enjoyed painting and had large beautiful flower gardens, with roses, tulips and irises, which she really loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Holy Name of Mary Church, Montrose, PA, with Rev. Gerard F. Safko officiating. Interment was in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mildred, PA.

Donations in Lucie’s memory can be made to the Holy Name of Mary Church.
