On June 4 and 5 the United Way of Susquehanna County will be having its 7th annual Snee Weekend with NY Giants’ Guard Chris Snee. The United Way of Susquehanna County is a not for profit 501c (3) charitable organization whose mission is to support agencies within the county that provide for basic human needs such as food, clothing, shelter, safety, and health. Currently it supports 19 community agencies that provide for these needs.All proceeds from this event will go to the United Way of Susquehanna County and will in turn assist the 19 agencies that it supports. The weekend will begin on Saturday, June 4, at Green Gables in New Milford from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with Jim Coles from WNEP TV emceeing the tailgate party. Chris Snee, Rich Seubert and a couple of rookies from the NY Giants are expected to attend this event. The evening will be full of fun as there will be a live sports auction, a question and answer time with the players, volleyball, horseshoes, music and great food. The fun continues on Sunday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Montrose High School with a whole new training camp. There will be 5 stations set up with 40/100 yard dash, punt pass & kick competition, obstacle course, flag football game with pro football player, Chris Snee, and a long jump and stationary jump. The training camp is free and open for all children ages 5 to 16. There will also be an appearance from the Binghamton Mets Mascots. Every child who pre-registers will receive a Binghamton Mets ticket to a home game. They will receive this ticket on the day of the event. Vouchers Available To Eligible Seniors TOWANDA, PA - Seniors who are age 60 and older may once again be eligible to receive vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables at WIC approved farm markets. In order to be eligible for these vouchers, the individual must: be a resident of Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna or Tioga County; be age 60 or older by December 31, 2011. According to the 2011 Farmers Market Nutrition Program Procedure Manual, income includes interest, Social Security, wages, etc. The 2011 household income eligibility is as follows: 1 person - $20,147; 2 people - $27,214; 3 people - $34,281. Individuals picking up food vouchers for relatives or friends must present a completed and signed proxy form along with proof of age and residency of the recipient. Proxy forms can be obtained by calling the Area Agency on Aging. Proof of age (drivers license, birth certificate, photo ID, etc.) and proof of residency are required at the time of pickup. Each eligible senior may receive four $5.00 checks for a total benefit of $20. Seniors who have already received Farmers Market Food Vouchers during 2011 are not eligible to participate again. Vouchers may be picked up at the following sites: Wednesday, June 1: Montrose Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2: Lenoxville Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 3: Lawton Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7: Forest City Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8: Lanesboro Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9: Blue Ridge Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Vouchers are also available at the Area Agency on Aging offices located on Spruce Street in Montrose, Monday through Friday from 9:00 until 4:00 during the months of June and July.
