LUCY PARRILLO

Lucy Parrillo, 87 of Turnpike Terrace Apartments, Susquehanna, PA, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 at her home. Lucy was born in Susquehanna, PA, on March, 22, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Maria (Palma) Parrillo.

She is predeceased by her three brothers Alphonse (Puff) Parrillo, Johnny Parrillo, and Albert (Chip) Parrillo; and two sisters, Mary Parrillo Ryan, and Josephine Parrillo Tarbox.

Lucy was survived by her two brothers and a sister-in-law, Patsy Parrillo, of Scanectady, NY, and Carl J. and Rita Parrillo, of Concord, NC; eight nieces and nephews, Alford Tarbox, Ronald Tarbox, Richard Tarbox, Joseph Parrillo, Carlo Parrillo, Maria Parrillo, Rita Parrillo, and Jay Parrillo; and many great nieces and nephews.

Lucy has many friends in Susquehanna having lived here all 87 years of her life. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Susquehanna, PA, and the Alter Rosary Society. The past two years she has lived at Turnpike Terrace Apartments and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and other activities with many of her friends.

A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, May 4, at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, with Rev. David Cramer officiating.

Burial was held in the St. John’s Cemetery in Susquehanna, PA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Evangelist Church in Susquehanna, PA.

RUTH HENDERSON

Ruth June Henderson, 95, of Susquehanna, PA, passed away at the Barnes Kasson Hospital late Monday evening, May 2, 2011.

She was predeceased by her sisters Maty Henderson, Roberta Schilling, Alberta June Lewis, Verla Buckel, Reba Ripke, Elizabeth Brown, and Pauline Searfoss.

Ruth was survived by her brothers Robert Utter and wife Alva, and Bernard June; her sister Arlene Snyder; nieces Margaret M. Allen, Shehawken, PA, Cathy Valentino, Ithaca, NY; many great; great great; and great, great great, nieces and nephews; and as requested by Ruth “A very special great, great, great nephew Benjamin Arthur Burman held a large portion of her heart;” and caregivers Justin and Rita Faigle.

Ruth was a lifetime resident of Susquehanna, PA. She worked at IBM, Singer Link, and the Barnes Kasson Hospital until her retirement. She also had a love for golf and the New York Yankees.

A memorial service was held at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home 747 Jackson Ave, Susquehanna, PA, on Friday, May 6, 2011, with Rev. James Rouse officiating.

Burial was held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Barnes Kasson SNF.

CARL W. YEISLEY

Carl W. Yeisley, 69, of Bellefonte died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born February 11, 1942 in Johnson City, New York, he was a son of the late Frank and Nancy Wheeler Yeisley.

He married Jerilynn R. Hughes of Scranton in 1964 and is survived by a sister, Sondra Goss, of Lewistown and three children: David Yeisley of Bellefonte, Tod and wife Khalen Yeisley of Dover and Wendy Blumenthal of Port Matilda. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ashley, Wyatt, Kelly, Kasey, Brittany, and Beth. Also the Les Yeisley family of Seattle, WA. He was predeceased by a brother, Rexford Yeisley.

Carl was a 1960 graduate of Blue Ridge High School, New Milford and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State in 1964 and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Seattle University in 1969. He was a retired software engineer having worked at TASC (Northrup Grumman) in Northern, VA; HRB Systems in State College; Ford Aerospace in England and Hanover, MD; RCA in England and Moorestown, NJ; and the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA.

Carl was a member and past president of the Loomis Lake Association and an avid fisherman, golfer and amateur genealogist. Early in life he enjoyed tennis, skiing, skin and scuba diving. He also enjoyed travel and in his lifetime moved 23 times for work purposes living in such places as Kwajalein Island in the Marshall Islands and the U.S. Northwest.

JAMES ROCKWELL

There will be a graveside service for James Rockwell on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery.

ARTHUR (BUSTER) SCHELL

Arthur William Schell, 88, of West Main St., Susquehanna, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 4, 2011. True Love never dies. We are sure he will be spending his 64th Anniversary (May 17) in Heaven back in the arms of his beloved wife, Gracie, who predeceased him in October.

He was also predeceased by his parents, John and Marion (Anderson) Schell, Oakland, PA and by his brother, Lawrence Schell of Newark Valley.

Buster is survived by his 4 children, John and Shirley Schell, Joe and Linda Schell, and Janet Fabrizi all of Susquehanna and Judy and Rick Truskolaski, Sharpsburg, Georgia; his brother Leslie and Sandra Schell, Susquehanna; sisters-in-law, Viola Ficarro and Mary Ficarro of Susquehanna and Loretta Schell, Endicott; twelve grandchildren, John Schell and fiancée Marcia Karhnak, Rick and Jen Fabrizi, Joseph and Erin Schell, Eric and June Schell, RJ and Kelly Truskolaski, Scott and Carmella Schell, Todd Fabrizi, Sean Schell and wife Diane DellaValle, Buffy Fabrizi, Matthew and Michele Schell, Allen and Sarah Schell, Stephen Schell; seventeen great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren; his cousin Charles and Carol Schell, Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Buster was the rock of his family. There was nothing more important to him than his family. He was the strong, silent type… a man of few words, but with a great sense of humor, who loved playing cards and dancing. He was a great man and a great friend to all who knew him.

He worked for Penn-Dot and was an auto mechanic for many years.

Buster was a veteran, serving in the US Army during World War II. He was a life time member of both the Susquehanna Fire Department and American Legion Post #86 and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, all of Susquehanna.

A mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, May 9, at St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, with Rev. David Kramer officiating.

Burial was in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barnes Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna, PA and St. John’s Men’s Club, Susquehanna, PA.

MARY IRENE BANKO

Mary Irene Banko, 82, of Susquehanna, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2011.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Mary and Andrew Drotar.

She was predeceased by her sons David and Mark Banko.

Mary was the beloved wife of Andrew Banko; she is also survived by her loving children, Regina Halecky, Patricia Wiktor, Mary Gehman and George Banko; devoted sisters Ann Sickora and Pauline Garry; seven cherished grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Mary enjoyed reading, church activities at St. Martin of Tours and visiting her family. She was one of the original members of St. Martin of Tours Church in Jackson, PA and very involved as a Committee Woman for the Democratic Party for 10 years.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna and 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Church, Jackson, PA, where a mass of Christian burial will be offered by Rev. David Kramer.

Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Martin of Tours Church, Jackson, PA.

LEONARD IRA JACKSON

Leonard Ira Jackson (Larry), of Lakeland, FL (formerly Susquehanna, PA/Kirkwood, NY), died April 7, 2011 at the age of 76.

"Larry" is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ruby Jackson; sister, Joyce Benjamin; and his first wife, Sharla Page Jackson.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine of 29 1/2 years; his children Michele and Ace Cuevas, Lynnette Jackson; his step children, Mary and Jeff Bailey, Chuck Cuevas; his brothers, Charles and Pearl Jackson and Gene and Carol Jackson; his grandchildren Larry, Carlos, Alycia, Jordan, Ricky, Franki, Jeffrey, Amber, Brittany, and Garrett; his great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Larry was a sales associate in the sporting goods department for Wal-Mart in Lakeland, FL. Before moving to Florida he managed B. J. Subs and Pizza in Susquehanna, PA and he was a carpenter by trade working in the Triple Cities area. He was a member of the Canawacta Lodge #360 F&AM, the Susquehanna Royal Arch Chapter #276 and an honorary member of the Kirkwood, NY Fire Department. He also served in the U.S. Army. He attended First United Methodist Church of Susquehanna, PA and Trinity United Methodist Church of Lakeland, FL. His hobbies included singing old songs, recording and making tapes for his friends. He also enjoyed cooking, his favorite being barbeque chicken and spiedies for his friends at Wal-Mart.

A memorial service will be held on May 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Susquehanna First United Methodist Church.

BRUCE SWARTWOOD

On Friday May 6, 2011 Bruce (Booper) Swartwood of Hallstead, PA went to be with the Lord.

He was predeceased by his brothers Charles and Roger Swartwood; and his sisters Phyllis Bugbee and Evelyn Swartwood.

He is survived by his brother James Swartwood Sr.; sister Patricia Blackington and sister and brother-in-law Leah and Paul White, all of Hallstead.

Bruce adored his many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. He served as the caretaker of Rosehill Cemetery in Hallstead for over 45 years, making a life mission of caring meticulously for the final resting place of his friends and neighbors. Throughout his life, Bruce developed a legacy of tireless giving to others. Whether mowing lawns, clearing snow from sidewalks, giving away the fruits of his vegetable gardens to neighbors or any of a dozen other forms of giving, Bruce found joy and comfort in easing the life challenges of others. All who knew him loved him and to an even greater extent, he loved each of them.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA. Interment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions in Bruce's honor may be made to the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 814, Hallstead, PA 18822.

NELSON W. LEET

Nelson W. Leet, 91, died peacefully, Thursday May 5, 2011, in the home of his birthplace on the Leet Homestead Farm in Shehawken, PA.

He was born November 27, 1919 a son of R.H. and Grace (Sanford) Leet also of Shehawken.

Nelson was a farmer all his life first raising Purebred Holsteins and later growing trees as co-owner of Shehawken Tree Farm. He served as a past President of the Dairymen’s League, was a second-generation agent for Nationwide Insurance for 32 years, and also a second-generation director for Farmers & Merchants Bank. He was a 50-year member and past master of Freedom Lodge #328, member of the IOOF Lodge in Lake Como, and a lifelong member of the Shehawken Methodist Church. Nelson’s most recent accomplishment was the penning of his book “Our Flying Vet & Other Country Tales.”

Nelson was pre-deceased by his wife of 55 years Alvena Bonham; brother Sanford Leet of Thompson; and sister Idaline Lucas of Carlisle.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Tom Chamberlain of Hallstead; son Rick and daughter-in-law Tanya of Shehawken; sons Raymond and Scott; ten Grandchildren, seven Great-Grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Clinton and Lorraine Leet of Honesdale; and sister-in-law Genevieve Leet of Thompson.

Calling hours will be held at the Shehawken Methodist Church from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Nelson’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the church as well.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family has requested cards of remembrance be sent to 555 Dixie Hwy, Starrucca, PA 18462.

Nelson will be remembered as a man who lived in a house by the side of the road and was a friend to all.
