Dome Theater Coming To M.V. Elementary The saying that “it takes a village to raise a child” is one that truly fits whenever the Mountain View Elementary School discusses programs and extra educational events for the students. The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) at Mountain View has always had the goal to provide educational programs for the students. They raise funds through annual events like the Craft Fair in November, Santa’s Secret Shop, bake sales, hoagie sales, and sweatshirt sales. All of the money raised is used to directly benefit the students. They use the funds to bring special programs like the Dome Theater, authors, and poets. They also fund special classroom projects, the fifth and sixth grade party and the kindergarten end-of-the-year program. This year is no exception. On Friday, May 13 grades one through six will have a unique opportunity during the day to participate in the Dome Theater, a unique, engaging audio and visual experience which makes learning fun and provides rich educational content in a memorable way. This mobile planetarium system offers a broad range of subject areas that bring the excitement of all areas of science to the students. The teachers have already selected programs for each grade level to support the science curriculum. Families can also experience the Dome Theater the same evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. There will be five different shows in the evening. Because of the time element and the limited number of students the Dome can accommodate during the day, the kindergarten students are unable to be scheduled. As a result, the kindergarten students will receive a free voucher for one parent to encourage them to come to see the program in the evening. The Dome will be set up in one half of the gym and a Science Showcase display will be on the other side of the gym. As a part of the Science: It’s Elementary Grant, students’ work will be showcased for the families to see. The grade levels are putting together student work for the different science kits they have worked on through the grant. Items included will range from the notebooks students keep to PowerPoint and handmade projects. Plan to make Friday the 13th a family night at the school to enjoy the fascinating Dome Theater and the Science Showcase.
