Dane Kozlevcar Receives Degree

Dane M. Kozlevcar of Uniondale, PA, graduated Sunday, May 23, 2010 from Misericordia University with a combined Bachelor of Science degree in health science and a Master of Science degree in physical therapy. He is the son of William J. and Barbara Kozlevcar.

Emily Travis Receives Honors

Cazenovia College, a small baccalaureate institution in Central New York, is home to about 1000 degree-seeking students. Among the recently announced Spring 2010 Semester Dean's List students is Emily Travis, of Montrose, PA, who is working toward a bachelor of professional studies degree in PA.

Students named to the Dean's List at Cazenovia College have achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average for all courses attempted, and have earned 12 or more academic credits during the semester.

Jonathan Bennett Receives Honors

Jonathan Paul Bennett, Harford, was among 16 members of the Class of 2010 to graduate from The University of Scranton's Honors Program.

The Jesuit university's Honors Program enforces the tradition of excellence and personal development by challenging exceptional students with independent work and intense engagement with facility and their peers. This prestigious program is designed to increase the student's intellectual skills, self-reliance and personal accountability. The program requires a year-long comprehensive research, creative or independent project.

For his honors research project, Bennett studied "The Impact of Stereotypes on Memory for Faces and Occupations." He looked at how and when gender stereotypes influence an individuals memory for masculine vs. feminine information. Pictures of males and females were analyzed based on gender-consistent or gender-inconsistent occupations. He then studied the participant's memory. His research project was conducted by Bryan R. Burnham, Ph.D. candidate, instructor of psychology.

Bennett graduated from Scranton with a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in psychology. Bennett was a member of Who's Who Among Students at American Universities and Colleges.

Josiah Hamernick To Attend Lycoming College

Josiah Hamernick, the son of Mary and Donald Hamernick of Hallstead, has been accepted and is planning to attend Lycoming College in the fall of 2010. He is a graduate of Montrose Area Jr./Sr. High School.

Josiah (pictured above) was captain of the soccer team his senior year and a District 2 All-Star. He was also on the baseball, track and swim teams. He was also in the Spanish Club and Latin Club. Josiah was on the honor roll every year and received a Lycoming Academic Scholarship. He has been an Altar Server for nine years.

Karli Wimmer Receives Degree

MORRISVILLE, NY - Karli Wimmer, a resident of Brackney, graduated from Morrisville State College in May with a degree in Equine Science - B.Tech. Karli was named to the President's List for the spring 2010 semester. To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a perfect 4.0 average for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.

Keystone Announces Honors Students

La Plume - Dr. Thea Harrington, vice president of academic affairs and dean of Keystone College, announced the full-time students who have been named to the president’s, dean’s, and honors list for the 2010 spring semester.

Full-time students who complete 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of 4.00 are named to the president’s list. To qualify for the dean’s and honors list, students must complete 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of 3.70-3.99 and 3.50-3.69 respectively.

PSU Announces Spring Graduates

Graduation at Penn State University was held May 14, 15 and 16, 2010. The University held 35 commencement ceremonies, including 13 at University Park. That weekend marked the 364th commencement exercise in Penn State’s history. University-wide, 12,413 students graduated. The following area students received their degree: Maryann C. Students Honored For Academic Achievement

SCRANTON, PA - Amanda S. Marcy, of Kingsley and Jeremy J. Travis, of Susquehanna were among the 57 students who received awards from The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university recognized exceptional students from the Class of 2010 with awards for academic achievement and service.

Marcy was the recipient of the Excellence in Accounting Award. She received a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in accounting.

Marcy was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Omega Beta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies, and the Society of Accounting Students. She was also a student member and ambassador of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). She has been on the dean's list each semester, received the Omega Beta Sigma 2010 Academic Excellence in Business Award and The University of Scranton 2008 and 2009 Frank O'Hara Awards, and was awarded scholarships from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Society of Public Accountants and The University of Scranton.

While at The University of Scranton, she worked as an assistant general manager at Kristy's Kones and More, Inc., Lenoxville and as an accounting intern at F.S. Lopke Contracting, Inc., Apalachin, NY.

Next year Marcy will pursue her education at The University of Scranton to obtain her master of business administration with a specialization in accounting. She will be a graduate teaching assistant for the Kania School of Management. She plans to become a certified public accountant in Pennsylvania and to pursue a doctoral degree in accounting. She graduated as the valedictorian from Mountain View High School.

Travis was the recipient of the Excellence in Electronic Commerce Award. He received bachelors of science, summa cum laude, in electronic commerce and operations management.

Travis was a member of Business Leadership Program and Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies. He was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

He interned with General Dynamics Land Systems. He received the Mckelvey, Loyola and John M. & Helen F. Robinson scholarships and the Catherine Coffey fellowship. He graduated from Susquehanna Community High School.

University Of The Sciences Announces Graduates

The following local residents graduated from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia during a ceremony on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 as part of the University's 189th Commencement celebration in Philadelphia, PA.

Katie Ann Bifano of Carbondale graduated cum laude with a doctor of pharmacy degree. She is the daughter of Mary Kay BiFano/Robert and June Bifano.

Valerie Lynn Kissel of Springville graduated cum laude with a doctor of pharmacy degree. She is the daughter of Michael and Susan Kissel. She was a member of the dance team, Student Government Association, and the American Pharmacists Association. Kissel was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Rho Chi honor societies.
