DANIEL T. SPELLMAN

Daniel T. Spellman, 81, Susquehanna, PA passed away Friday, June 6, 2003 at Barnes-Kasson Hospital SNF, Susquehanna, after an illness.

He was born in Hanover Township, PA, the son of the late Edward and Katherine (Brislin) Spellman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen (Gaughan) Spellman; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Eugene Trancansky, Vestal, NY; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Peggy Spellman, New Cumberland, PA, Edward and Karen Spellman, Endwell, NY, DJ and Jane Spellman, Montrose, PA; thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie, Patrick, John Michael, Sarah, Corrie, Zachary, Danielle, Shaun, Kyle, Kevin, Katelyn, Meghan, Colin.

Daniel was a member of St. John’s Church, Stone Bridge Lions Club, American Legion Post #86, and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #794, all of Susquehanna. He retired from the PA Department of Transportation and Barnes-Kasson County Hospital where he worked as a transportation engineer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II.

The Lord has been merciful in granting him peaceful release from his earthly responsibilities.

Funeral services were held from Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Susquehanna, and from St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, where a Mass of Christian Burial was offered.

SHIRLEY ANN HUGHES

Shirley Ann Hughes, 66, Susquehanna, PA, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her home.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, David L. Hughes; two daughters and sons-in-law, April and Michael Mroz, Penny and Martin Aldrich, Hallstead; a son, Dennis Hughes, Sterling, VA; special friend, Mary Jo Lane; nine grandchildren, Sgt. Dale Hughes, Fort Campbell, KY, Ryan and Kristy Hughes, Kirkwood, NY, Misti, Erica and Justin Mroz, Kyle, Samantha and Casey Aldrich; two great-grandsons, Anthony and Austin Hughes; three sisters, Mary Meagley, Grace Glas, June Lafey; two brothers and sister-in-law, Raymond, Clarence and Judy Vandeymark; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathryn Treible, Robert and Audrey Hughes, Dorie Locklar, Leonard Hughes, Melva and Mack Thacker; many nieces and nephews; many, many special friends.

Shirley was a member of the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, UMCC Women’s Group treasurer, Chair of the UMCC Easter Egg Fund-raiser for many years, and she assisted with the Caring Café. She was a lifetime member and vice president of the VFW Auxiliary, a 36-year member of the American Legion, and was a Hallstead–Great Bend Civic Club member. She also loved all of her adopted grandchildren, enjoyed cooking and crocheting, and watching her wild turkeys and hummingbirds.

A funeral service was held from the United Methodist Community Church on June 10, with Pastor Don Littleton solemnizing. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

At Shirley’s request, gifts in her memory may be sent to the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, PA 18821; or to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 8400 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19152.

Arrangements were made by the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead.
