SCCTC Student Built House Project Sells

Submitted By Beth Beardslee

We are pleased to announce that the SCCTC has once again successfully sold a student-built house. Our fourth Student Built House Project has been completed. We congratulate the new homeowners and wish them many years of enjoyment in their new home.

The students were given the opportunity to showcase their craftsmanship and hard work to the community at the Open House held in May. The home, that was designed and constructed by the building trades students is a vinyl and stone, three-bedroom home with 2,100 square feet. The project took approximately two full school years to complete. From the setting of the concrete walls for the basement to the finishing work throughout the house, students got to experience hands-on all aspects of the building process and see what a career in the building trades will entail.

Dr. Alice M. Davis, Executive Director stated, "This is a great educational opportunity for students to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom in a real world environment". Students will be planning and designing the next house project during the upcoming school year. We look forward to the creativity and details that the students put forth in developing our next project.
