Open House At Windwood Academy

The Windwood Hill Dance Academy (WHDA), owned and directed by Bobbie Jo Kelsey is celebrating a new exciting year of growth and expansion. To celebrate her 30 years of teaching and sharing the art of dance to all ages in the community, she will hold an Open House at the new Montrose location, 96 High Street. On Sunday, May 20th from 1-4:00 pm there will be refreshments, studio tours, trial dance and fitness classes, dance demonstrations by WHDA dancers, meet and greet with WHDA faculty and staff. Cash prizes and other drawings will be a part of the Open House, as well as pre-registration for WHDA summer camps and the 2018-2019 semester.

WHDA classes are fun but challenging and offer students positive reinforcement. WHDA offers many performance opportunities for its students. Not only do they showcase their students in an annual summer dance recital to be held this year on Saturday, June 16th at 2pm at the Elk Lake High School, but they present Halloween and Christmas shows at various community events such as senior centers, local festivals and fairs, including the Harford Fair.

Pictured (l-r) are members of the Advanced Jazz Class at the Windwood Hill Dance Academy in Montrose: Samantha Warner, Kelsey Brown, Breanna Graves, Madison Severcool, Heidi Kropff, Jessica Marvin, Krystal Hepler, LiLing Lee.

Pre-school to adult, there is something for everyone. There are many styles of dance classes to choose from. WHDA is also expanding its fitness program to include yoga, zumba, jazzercize, tappercize, Move Fitness & Barre Fitness are all in Montrose and Kathy G Fitness in Susquehanna.

Miss Bobbie is former owner and director of The Dance Theatre in Deposit, NY. She opened WHDA in Susquehanna, PA in 1998. Other locations include Oakland and New Milford. This past year WHDA moved to a beautifully renovated location in Montrose, PA and has added a satellite studio once again in Susquehanna in an effort to accommodate a larger portion of Susquehanna County and surrounding areas.

Miss Bobbie has been involved in dance for over 40 years. She is experienced in teaching ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, broadway theatre, modern and Irish dance forms. Not only does she teach within her own studio, she is the dance instructor and choreographer for The Endless Mountains Theatre Company's Theatre Camp (Ed Camp). She also has served as the choreographer for the Family School in French Woods, Pennsylvania focusing on musical productions. In 2008 she was the instructor for the 1920's dance program and that featured Charleston lessons for Susquehanna County Literacy Program/The Big Read which featured "The Great Gatsby". As a former student of Helene Yelverton, she has also had the opportunity to study under the instruction of Karen Koyanagi, Lois Welk, Danita Schiff, and Bob Rizzo to name a few. Her professional performances have included Rod Serling Dance Company in Binghamton, New York and LaTeste, France as well as The Carousel Dance, also in Binghamton. In the past, she has been president of the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists' Central New York Chapter.

So mark your calendars and attend the open house to see what is presently offered at the dance studio at its new location. Miss Bobbie's vision for the future is to see the WHDA become a performing arts academy that offers music, voice and acting lessons, as well as dance and fitness. Her goal is to raise awareness of the importance of being fit by offering an after school children's program focusing on fitness, wellness and nutrition. The addition of Martial Arts and self-defense training is another hope for the future.

Detailed information regarding WHDA's Open House and all of its programs including fitness, summer camp and 2018-2019 class schedules can be found at www.windwoodhilldance.com. You can also find WHDA on Facebook. To contact WHDA call 570-396-3822 or email missbobbie@windwoodhilldance.com.
