Registration for the 20018 Primary ends on April 15. The Primary is on May 15 and it is time for us all to choose sides. How did we get to the place that we, as a state, can ignore the death of 30,000 totally helpless innocent babies a year is beyond my ability to understand. Is anyone's life, other than those who profit from this heinous slaughter, better for allowing this holocaust to go on? How does one quiet that question in their subconscious and allow this to continue?
I understand that political correctness does not allow the timid to speak. But just as the Germans had to accept and atone for the deaths of the millions they had slaughtered so will we. We have a choice - one for Governor of our great state. Politically correct candidates running for Governor believe the Abortion Control Act is doing its job! When 30,000 babies die each year in Pennsylvania it should be easy to see it is not working. The "bathroom bill" that allows individuals to choose which bathroom to use is another issue to examine before voting. That bill is an insult to people of faith and threatens our children.
There are candidates who will fight for our families and the rights we hold so dear. The assault on our faith, our family or way of life can be stopped. We are a great country. There are ways to help women in dangerous or unplanned pregnancies without killing the baby. There is room to allow our Churches, of all faiths to practice their religion without intimidation. It is time to stop electing those who continue the march to the politically correct tune.
Sincerely,
Annette Corrigan, Jackson Township
The Susquehanna County Farm Bureau is celebrating Rural Roads Safety Week April 8-15 by encouraging county motorists to travel safely on roadways this Spring and throughout the year.
You may have noticed that farmers are returning to the fields to begin planting crops. As the new season gets underway, tractors, farm trucks, wagons and other large equipment are once again traveling on Pennsylvania roadways. To the distracted or impatient motorist, vehicles such as these can impose a threat when safe driving practices are not observed. For example, if a car is moving 55mph and comes upon a tractor moving 15mph, it only takes five seconds to close a gap the length of a football field between the car and the tractor.
Don't forget to reduce your speed when driving on roads where you might encounter large farm machinery. Also make sure to slow down immediately when you see the Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) sign, which is an orange triangle with a red border, attached to a farm vehicle.
In order to accommodate motorists, drivers of slow moving farm vehicles often pull onto the shoulder of a paved roadway to give other motorists a better view of road conditions and enough room to pass. Keep in mind if the shoulder is soft, wet or steep, the farmer cannot move aside because it could cause the equipment to roll over. If the farmer is unable to safely pull the vehicle off the road, and you feel you must pass, do so with caution.
On behalf of Susquehanna County Farm Bureau, I encourage all residents to be aware of farm vehicles and equipment during their travels on rural roads. By working together, we can make the trip safe for motorists and farmers.
Sincerely,
Dennis Bunnell, Beef Farmer

Could Michael Wolff, author of Fire and Fury, that book of slander and gossip, of rumors and innuendos, be right: Donald Trump isn't all there there?
Wolff wrote that whoever had Trump's ear last is the one he agrees with. And it looks like the Dems had it last, and they were talking about DACA.
Maybe the president should have stayed on the Apprentice; then Hillary would be president. It's a choice between one who waivers on issues like a flag in a breeze and another who is as crooked as a pig's tail. Does it really make any difference?
By this time everyone except recent arrivals from the planet Zercon knows that DACA, Deferred Amnesty for Childhood Aliens, is about what it says, "Amnesty." And, no, it's not for the oft-cited 800,000, it's millions pouring in from third-world countries. Surveys show that 80 percent of those headed North across the southern border will vote Democrat.
Millions of more voters who will pencil in every box starting with a "D." That would have been enough to tip the last presidential election to the Blues. And conceivably enough to swing future outcomes to the Left.
The future could see the Repubs trying to outdo the Dems. Essentially, two Democrat Parties vying to see who could outflank the other on the Left. Socialist vs. socialist. Guess who wins.
Then there's the other book, "The Art of The Deal," by Trump.
The Repubs have the House, the Senate, and the presidency. But having everything is still not enough. They have to bargain with the Dems to get the cost of the wall in the budget. They have only one bargaining chip: a wall across Mexico and the upper 48.
The Repubs offer this chip to the opposition party without bargaining. In return, the Repubs "have full confidence" (Trump's quote) that they, those present at the January 9th bipartisanship meeting on DACA, will offer the president a bill which he will sign, even if he doesn't agree with it.
It seems that the "Art" in The Art of The Deal stands for artless.
So now the Repubs go hat-in-hand urging the Dems to agree to put $18 billion in the budget to pay for the cost of the wall, spread over the next ten years; that's $1.8 billion/year.
But do you remember Trump asking the rally crowds, "Who will pay for the wall," to which they roared back, "Mexico"? When did you last hear that?
Another way the wall was to be funded was by taxing remittances, that is, money sent by Mexican workers in the States back home. Trump described this as "a no-brainer."
Remittances by Mexican workers, legal and illegal, drain an annual $25 billion from the American economy; it's also Mexico's main source of income.
A 7.2 percent tax on remittances would yield $1.8 billion a year. Over ten years, that's enough to pay for the entire $18 billion cost of the wall.
If 7.2 percent seems excessive, Trump could split the cost with Mexico. After all, the wall benefits the US as much as it does Mexico.
For the US, the wall stems the flow of illegal migrants and drugs. For Mexico, the wall is a barrier to the estimated $40 billion in drug receipts that must be smuggled into Mexico. This money goes into the pockets of the cartels, threatening to turn Mexico into a narco-state.
But that's just another campaign promise conveniently jettisoned. Uncle Schmuck will foot the entire cost.
Even if there is a less than favorable agreement that the DACA committee hands the president, he will sign it supposing that restricting aliens to the most wonderful of God's children, he could control immigration. He's wrong.
As in the seven other amnesties, lack of enforcement and Leftist federal judges will chip away at each restriction. If they have their way, the pathway into the US will be paved over into a north-bound highway.
Obama's illegal DACA scheme to turn the ballet boxes blue must be squelched---not fixed, changed, or modified---squelched. And that's going to be tough. The Democrats are united and tough; the Republicans are divided and weak. Winning is a long shot.
But if we can't hold the line on immigration this time, it's over. The US' descent into third-world socialism will be unstoppable. It's bye-bye, America; hola Mexamerica.
Sincerely,
Bob Scroggins, New Milford, PA
