Letters to the Editor Policy

Hypocrisy Is Reminiscent

Anti-abortion "family values" conservative Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) has resigned. This happened after it came out that he had advised his mistress to get an abortion.

I am not the slightest bit surprised. Murphy's hypocrisy is reminiscent of a former Congressman who represented this very district (Don Sherwood) who preached family values, but who, in practice, also kept a mistress. (What's more, she said he physically abused her.)

And I've heard about clinic workers who have even seen women who march outside the clinic, protesting abortion, quietly coming in for an abortion when it suits them (or when their daughter gets in trouble).

What we learn is that right-wingers are stinking phonies. And that we can't expect to put an end to abortion as long as there's a demand for it, even from abortion activists themselves. So let's get real.

Murphy's staffers complain that he's angry and aggressive, creating a hostile and unpleasant working environment. There's "Fruits of the Spirit" for you.

Sincerely,

Stephen Van Eck

Rushville, PA
