Amy E. Black of Hop Bottom was among 60 members of The University of Scranton's undergraduate class of 2017 honored for academic excellence at Class Night on May 26, 2017.
Students with the highest GPA in each of the University's three undergraduate colleges were presented Frank J. O'Hara Awards for General Academic Excellence, a memorial to the late administrator who served the University for 53 years. Students were also recognized for excellence within their various disciplines.

Black was the recipient of the Excellence in Theatre Award. She graduated cum laude with a major in theatre. She is a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda, Sigma Tau Delta and Alpha Sigma Nu honor societies. She served as an International Service Program mentor in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and a council member for The University of Scranton Players. While continuing her employment as office/operations manager, Student Health Services at Scranton, she will be the production assistant and props coordinator with Scranton Shakespeare Festival this summer. She is a graduate of Bishop Hannan High School, Scranton.
