Blue Ridge Pre-K At Brant’s Farm

My name is Kaelynn Brant. I am a Susquehanna County Dairy Maid. I am 10 years old and attend Blue Ridge Elementary School.

The Pre-K students from Blue Ridge came to our farm for a field trip. Members from the Susquehanna County Dairy Promotion Team showed the kids how we run the farm. We showed the kids how the milk goes from the farm to the store. My sister, Kendra Brant, a Dairy Ambassador helped out in the milk house and showed the kids how the milk is stored in the big bulk tank. Recently retired Susquehanna County Dairy Princess Brooke Marvin talked with the children about life on a dairy farm. Dairy Ambassador Elizabeth Chidester showed the children what the cows eat to keep them healthy.

Dairy Ambassador Mary Catherine Chidester helped my dad, Keith Brant demonstrate to the children how medicines are given when the cows get sick. Dana Nunemacher, also a member of the Dairy Promotion Team talked with the class about what the baby calves eat and what is done to take care of them.  I demonstrated to the kids how we actually milk the cows and how the pipeline carries the milk to the milk house. At the end of the tour there were tractors the kids could sit on. The Dairy Promotion Team handed out a healthy snack of milk and cookies and talked to the children about the importance of getting 3 servings everyday of dairy milk, cheese or yogurt. I think all the kids enjoyed their field trip!
