A Tour Of Scenery View Dairy Farm
Submitted by Krista Jones, Susquehanna County Dairy Ambassador
Hello everyone! My name is Krista Jones and I am a dairy ambassador for Susquehanna County. I attend Elk Lake School where I am involved in cross country, basketball, track and field, band, chorus, and campus life.

Krista Jones and her cousin, Skylar Chilson
I would like to share some information about my family farm, Scenery-View. Scenery-View is a four generation dairy farm, worked by my family. Some of my family members who work on the farm are my grandpa, William Jones Jr., my dad, William Jones III, my uncle, Casey Jones, my grandma, Vicky Jones, my aunt, Julie Chilson, and my brothers, Luke, Peyton, and Kendel Jones. We currently milk 230 cows in a herringbone style parlor. The farm has come a long way since my great-grandfather milked just two cows by hand when the farm first started!

Pictured (l-r) are members of the Susquehanna County Dairy Team in the solar barn as the dairy cows enjoy eating: Dana Nunemacher, Krista Jones, Katelyn Farley, Elizabeth Chidester, Mary Chidester.
Recently we were pleased to host a farm tour for the Pennsylvania Holstein Association, as they were in Scranton for their annual Holstein Convention. On February 24th, which was an unusually warm, seventy degree day, two tour buses traveled to our farm to view our barns and high type dairy cattle. The tour included the original historic barn, which was recently renovated to house the heifers, ages three months to one year old. We also walked through the solar barn where our milk cows are housed and fed. Then we moved onto the area where our baby calves are kept in calf hutches. Lastly, we finished out the tour with milk and cookies served by some of my friends from the Susquehanna County Dairy Promotion Court.
I would like to thank the people and businesses that supported us with the tour. Thank you to our State Representative Tina Pickett for showing support to dairy farmers and agriculture by attending the tour. I would also like to thank Daye-licious Baking for making and decorating adorable cow cookies and the Susquehanna County Dairy Promotion Court for serving the milk and cookies. Next, our milk haulers Tom and LaVonne Powell of TL Powell Transport Inc. and our milk processing company Readington Farms Inc., NJ. Thank you to Susanne Jones Photography for taking the awesome pictures that are posted on the Scenery-View Facebook page.

Cornerstone Replacement Project Completed
Submitted by Nancy Narma
In between community events, Susquehanna Community Development Members can be found decorating Main Street for the Autumn and Christmas Seasons, selling spring-flowering plants or fall mums, or, perhaps, helping out in many ways throughout the borough and beyond.

Pictured (l-r) are: Donna and Butch Coleman, Endless Mountain Stone Co. and S.C.D.A. Board Member, John Sholtiss at the new cornerstone site.
One recent “Downtown” example is the “Cornerstone Replacement Project”, headed up by S.C.D.A. Board Member John Sholtiss. Many engraved cornerstones were damaged by road and sidewalk salt, which marred their beauty. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Butch and Donna Coleman of the Endless Mountain Stone Co., fifty-four cornerstones were replaced and set, free of charge, and can be admired by Drinker Creek Park, next to the County Transcript Building. A world of thanks is extended for making another area of the Borough of Susquehanna Depot beautiful and meaningful, once more.

Boomer
Boomer is just the sweetest boy with a whole lot of love to give. This bouncy Mr.Personality is a fun loving guy who adores people and is eager to please.
Our cuddly big teddy bear recently underwent surgery to remove an eye but that doesn't stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. Only 2 years old, neutered, UTD, and handsome as can be, Boomer will be more than happy to call you his best friend. He can be a bit dog selective so a meet and greet would be advisable. Stop on in and meet our affectionate, rather large lap dog.
If you can't adopt, please consider making a donation to our medical fund so we can continue to be there for other needy animals the way we were there for Boomer.
Fun Fact: Max and Jake are the most popular male dog names. Boomer's name may not have made the "most popular" list but at the shelter he is still #1 with us!

Join Our Numbers
Submitted by Fred Baker
The American Legion was founded on the “Four Pillars” of service. “Americanism”, the desire to maintain the rights and the liberties that our Nation bestowed upon its citizens. “National Security”, an unparalleled homeland security to ensure the safety of all citizens within our borders defended by the very best military fighting force in the world. “Children and Youth”, The American Legion at all levels has focused their time, talents, and moneys on advocating for America’s children. “Veterans Administration and Rehabilitation”, independent oversight for many benefits, programs and opportunities created to compensate and care for generations of American veterans and their dependents. The strength of or membership gives us the power to support these high ideals.
Yearly, our National organization testifies before Congress. Part of that testimony admonishes Congress to maintain accountability toward our goals. The power of our numbers insures that they will pay attention. The administration costs of our programs are derived from dues. Each member supports this administration even if they only pay dues and participate in nothing else. Of course every aspect of the American Legion benefits from participation, but only dues are required.
In the counties of the 15th District, there are 28 posts. Thirteen have social clubs for members to enjoy fellowship of the members. Fifteen, more than half are posts that we refer to as “paper posts” or posts without a club. All twenty-eight are active in their communities as well as the state and national level.
Membership is the life blood of any organization and the American Legion uses the strength of our numbers to make a real difference. Only 25% of qualified veterans belong to The American Legion. If you qualify, we ask you to take a good look at the American Legion in your community and decide for yourself, if you would like to part of all we do.
If you are a qualifying VETERAN, we would appreciate your support by becoming a member.
