Children’s Choir Holiday Concert

The Endless Mountains Children’s Choir will present a Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 11, 3pm at the South Gibson United Methodist Church. The choir consists of many young members in elementary grades 1 to 6, most of which consist of children in grades 2 to 4.  Another set of choir chimes has been added this year. We now have 2 sets of choir chimes that children will be using to perform many of the Christmas carols this year, which means they will be playing multiple chimes, making the music really beautiful.

The choir will take you on a musical journeyby performing carols in the native languages of various countries such as “Jubilate Deo” (Latin Processional) performed with the choir chimes; “Stille Nacht” (Germany) performed with the choir chimes; “Noel Nouvelet” (France); “Gesu Bambino” (Italy); “Luliejze Jesu” (Poland) performed with the choir chimes; “Deck the Halls” (England); “Veni, Veni Emmanuel” (Latin Chant) performed with the choir chimes; “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” (America); Trans Siberian Orchestra arrangement of the “Canon in D”; “Do You Hear what I Hear?”; “Dona Nobis Pacem” (Grant Us Peace) performed in American Sign Language; “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer/Holly Jolly Christmas”; “Winter Wonderland”; “Silver Bells” performed with the choir chimes.

So as you can see there is a variety of musical selections to be performed by the children to showcase their wonderful talents.  Members of the choir include; Audrey Anderson, Brooklyn Anderson, Paige Barnes, Holly Burke, Ava Depew,  Lea Evans, Emily Gorham, Sarah Gorham, Penny Herbert, Rohan Hertzog, Addison Kilmer, Ryleigh Kilmer, Coral Kleyman, Saige Kleyman, Kylee Kozloski, Alyse Legg, Lauren Legg, Mimi Sedlak,  Emily Seymour, Nevaeh Sorensen,  Adia Tompkins, Addison Tompkins and Avery Tompkins.

Some of the solo and group selections include: Infant Holy, Infant Lowly – Coral Kleyman; Ma’oz Tsur – Saige Kleyman (sung in Hebrew as Hanukkah begins at sundown on December 24); Sleigh Ride – Saige Kleyman; Let It Snow – Sarah Gorham, Ava Depew, Holly Burke, Penny Herbert; Feliz Navidad – Emily Gorham, Emily Seymour; Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Emily Gorham, Alyse Legg, Sarah Gorham; O Come All Ye Faithful – Piano Solo – Alyse Legg; Christmas Canon; Recorders- Paige Barnes, Brooklyn Anderson, Ryleigh Kilmer, Mimi Sedlak.

The choir will perform a holiday concert at the Willowbrook Assisted Living Facility in Clarks Summit on December 10. Then we complete our winter season with a holiday concert at the National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC on Thursday, December 15 at 7pm. We are very excited to be going to Washington to perform this concert. We sincerely thank everyone for supporting our fund raisers that helped us raise the funds for our trip.

Come and join us at our concert on Sunday, December 11. Hear the wonderful carols from many other countries of the world. Refreshments will be served after the concert.

Walk In The Past Returns Dec. 16

Perhaps you have enjoyed Jon C. Burdick’s photos of Susquehanna and surrounding areas on Facebook, or had a chance to admire matted or framed photos at an area arts and crafts show or festival. If not, you have another opportunity, as you are invited to attend “A Walk in the Past” with Jon C. Burdick on Friday, December 16th, at the Susquehanna United Methodist Church Hall, Main Street Susquehanna.

Mr. Burdick, local resident, gifted photographer and avid historian, will once again present a pictorial review of the Borough of Susquehanna Depot, its surrounding areas, with special emphasis on our area’s crown jewel, the Starrucca Viaduct, and the Native American Tribes who inhabited our region. The presentation, which is sponsored by the Susquehanna Community Awareness Committee, in coordination with the Susquehanna United Methodist Church, will start at 6:00 P.M. (Please use the lower entrance by Dollar General.) There is no admission fee and light refreshments will be offered.

Mr. Burdick has an extensive collection of area photos from days gone by, including the Starrucca Viaduct, as well as many of the Erie Shops and Main Street, Susquehanna, just to name a few. As with the previous programs, locations will not be the only item recognized in the photographs as many have captured local individuals which are bound to stir up accompanying stories and memories from members of the audience. With the Holiday Season in mind, Jon will have matted and framed photos available for purchase that evening as well. Please plan to join us, and you will have another chance to explore the history of Susquehanna’s past and learn how it has progressed to present day.
