The Gibson Charge, which includes the United Methodist Churches of South Gibson and Gibson, has upcoming events including participation in the Rt. 11 Ministerium Advent Service, to be held on Dec. 4th, 3 PM at the Hallstead Presbyterian Church. On December 10th, the community is invited to the annual outside tree lighting at South Gibson UMC, followed by caroling, fellowship and refreshments inside the church. On Dec. 11th at 4 PM, the Gibson Sunday School will present their program, and on Dec. 14th at 6 PM at South Gibson, all are invited for a potluck dinner, followed by a reading of the Christmas Story by the Sunday School. Donations of paper products for the food bank are appreciated. This year the Christmas Eve Service will be held at the Gibson UMC at 7 PM and a Christmas Day Service will be held at South Gibson UMC at 10:30 AM.
The churches of the Gibson Charge are mission-oriented. This year Gibson UMC continued to support the Heifer Project and a homemade blanket outreach to benefit children in hospitals. Both churches supported those in need nationally and globally by sending 17 Flood Buckets and 39 School Kits to Mission Central in Mechanicsburg, PA, for distribution. The churches also contributed to the Red Bird Mission to help those in Appalachia and locally support area food banks and Susquehanna County Interfaith programs. On October 30th, members of both congregations did not meet at church for worship as usual. Instead they went out into the community to share candy, smiles and songs to neighbors and baked goods to the PA State Police at the Gibson Barracks.
Regular Sunday services are held at 9 AM at Gibson UMC and at 10:30 AM at South Gibson UMC. A Midweek Spiritual Renewal Service is held on Wednesdays at Gibson UMC at 6:30 PM. Both churches offer Sunday School classes at 9 AM at South Gibson and 10:15 AM at Gibson. All are welcome!
