Insulin Pump Support Group

Individuals met recently for their monthly insulin pump support group meeting at the Abington Library in Clarks Summit.  Meetings are open to the public for Type 1 diabetics who are on any kind of insulin pump or are considering a pump.  Sometimes a diabetes educator joins the group to share information and to answer questions.  Members are also working to have a dietician make a presentation to the group in the future.

Pictured (l-r) are the members of the Type 1 Insulin Pump Support Group who met at the Abington Library: Charlie Saxe, Cindy Reynolds, Grace Hauenstein, Donna Theobald.

Type 1 diabetics learn from each other during the support group meetings.  Members present at the November meeting included Grace Hauenstein who was diagnosed 3 years ago; Cindy Reynolds who has been diabetic 43 years ago; Charlie Saxe who was diagnosed 49 years ago and Donna Theobald, a 16 year diabetic.  Members are all ages and come from many different areas but all have one goal, to manage their diabetes in order to remain healthy and to avoid complications.

The next meeting is on Friday, December 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Abington Library.  The meeting is open to anyone who has any type of pump, is considering a pump or has a family member or friend who is on the pump.  Support is one of the most important things in dealing with diabetes because it is a 24 hour job.  Sharing information gives individuals power in dealing with this chronic condition which takes daily monitoring for a long and active life.  Many of the participants are proof that it can be done.
