Clifford Zoning Discussion Set

Clifford Township recently prepared a Comprehensive Plan and updated its Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance. It is now considering adopting a zoning ordinance.

The Township Planning Commission will have a public meeting on Wednesday, December 14, 7:00 PM at the Township Building, to review a preliminary draft for discussion purposes, gather opinions and address issues.  The preliminary first draft may be accessed at www.shepstone.net/Clifford.

The meeting will include a detailed presentation of what a Clifford Township Zoning Ordinance might look like.  Shepstone Management Company is assisting the Township with the project.

Prior to the public meeting, Township residents and taxpayers are encouraged to visit the website or the Township Community Building to review the draft. It represents preliminary thinking only, but divides the Township into four zoning districts: (1) a Hamlet Development District encompassing areas of Clifford, Dundaff and West Clifford; (2) a Lake and Mountain District surrounding the Lake Idlewild, Elk Mountain, Stillwater Reservoir and Crystal Lake areas; (3) a Commercial-Industrial District that includes some of Clifford, the Royal area and the Tennessee Gas Compressor station area and; (4) a Rural Development District representing the remainder of the Township.

All districts allow for fairly wide arrays of uses; consistent with neighborhood character. Minimum lot sizes for uses where subsurface sewage disposal is proposed are maintained at two acres. For more information, contact Tom Shepstone at 570-251-9550
