
Leon C. Button, 86, of Great Bend, PA went home to be with his Lord on September 8, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 61 years, Barbara.
Leon is also survived by his 2 children, Lois and Xaver Gonzalez and Norman and Mary Button; four beloved grandchildren, Katie, Madison, Gabrielle, and Lexi; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Jeanette Cox, Lorraine Stockholm Jennings, Eloise (Squirt) Marshman, and Dawn Dietrich.
Leon was a proud veteran, serving with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6223. He was a director and superintendent of horses for many years at the Harford Fair. Leon started the Susquehanna County 4H livestock auction. He was a 65 year member of the I.O.O.F. Canawacta Lodge 207, New Milford, PA. Leon was a member of the Lions Club, a member and served as the past president of the Great Bend Fire Company, served on the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, and a member of the Rainbow Corral. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Hallstead.
Leon was an auctioneer and he and Barbara owned Button’s Auction Barn. He drove school bus for the Blue Ridge School District for many years. He retired from Kroehler’s Manufacturing. Leon was an example of the Greatest Generation, always productive and hard working. He loved his family dearly.
A funeral service was held, Monday, September 12, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Hallstead, PA.
Interment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery. Should friends so desire, memorial contributions in his memory may take the form of a donation to the Great Bend Ambulance Service, Inc., P.O. Box 793, Great Bend, PA 18821.
