Kyle Smith Is Employee Of Year

The 2016 Harford Fair is behind us and what a great fair it was.  Credit for the years of success of the fair go to so many individuals.  Included in that number are the many traffic workers who man the parking area.  Last year, Chuck Latwinski initiated the award to recognize a traffic worker who went above and beyond his or her duties throughout fair week.  This year, Kyle Smith, of Starrucca was selected as Traffic Employee of the Year 2016.

Scott Knifer, Crew Chief in Traffic and Kyle Smith

During an interview following his recognition, Kyle gave credit to his crew chief, Scott Knifer, who he said was his inspiration.  While many of the workers are ones who have worked at the fair for many, many years, Kyle is a new employee this year.  It is also his first time to attend the Harford Fair.  He worked every day, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and his crew chief said that “he is a natural born leader.”  It was evident in the manner in which he dealt with the public as well as how he did his job.

In recognition of his dedication to his job and expertise in performance, Director Brandon Bennett and Traffic Superintendent Chuck Latwinski recognized Kyle as Traffic Employee of the 2016 Harford Fair.   As anyone can guess, traffic is not an easy area to work, having to deal with constant complaints by fairgoers of having to park too far away, claiming the need for a handicapped area to park, and from those who have to move because they parked inappropriately in reserved spots.  However, Kyle, as well as many of the other traffic staff, takes the complaints in stride and just keeps smiling.  His positive nature certainly plays an important role in fairgoers enjoying the fair.

As a result, Kyle’s selection of this recognition is well deserved and is a fine example of the many dedicated employees as well as volunteers who perform all kinds of jobs which make the Harford Fair a highly successful annual event in Susquehanna County.

Area Vet Awarded Scholarship

Mr. William Quick, a US Navy veteran, was awarded a scholarship to attend the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center. The scholarship was awarded through the Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains VETS (Veteran Education & Training Support) Fund.

Pictured (l-r) are: SCCTC Financial Aid Coordinator Mrs. Tammi Mowry, Mr. Joe Andre, Mr. William Quick, SCCTC Executive Director Dr. Alice M. Davis, Mr. Bill Aileo, Mr. Earle Whooten.

Mr. Quick will be participating in the Practical Nursing program which launched its 7th class on September 13, 2016. The year-long program, through classroom study and clinical rotations, enables the student to test for their state practical nursing license upon graduation.

SCCTC Executive Director, Dr. Alice M. Davis noted that, through the generosity of the many donors to the Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains, SCCTC programs have flourished. Program offerings would not exist if it were not for federal, state, VA financial aid and scholarships such as the VETS Fund. The SCCTC has much to offer adults and students alike in the community and many opportunities exist for those that are not financially able to afford to continue their education following high school.
