Letters to the Editor Policy

Hilary’s America

Last weekend we went to see the “Hilary’s America” movie at the Cinemark theater at Montague Mountain. The movie is written and produced by Denish D'Sousa who has written other books/movies trying to inform America of the truths of the Obama/Hillary form of governing. It appears that many Americans never learned the history of our great country and do not realize the dangers of progressivism or socialism, and the direction we are headed in.

The morning after this trip to the movies Sue Henry had Mr. D'Sousa on her morning radio show. I sincerely hope many attended the movie and/or heard Sue's broadcast. Mr. D'Sousa spent time in jail for his daring to confront the lies and myths of the corruptness in our government. His time in jail proved worthwhile for he saw the government is largely patterned after the mob scams he found there. Mr. D'Sousa did not hesitate to lay out the entire story of how the Obama presidency and Hillary's time as Secretary of State has caused a great lack of trust by our allies and tremendous lack of fear and brazen acts of terrorism by our enemies.

I am only too well aware of the reluctance to watch such information, for all too often we feel nauseated or worse that there is nothing we can do. Not responding to such brazen acts only encourages the terrorism, however. There is also a tremendous desire to not believe what D'Sousa is trying to make us understand. We have only three months until we decide the direction our country will go. In such times of evil I cannot believe we are bound to one party or the other. The Democratic party has closed their eyes to the selling of baby parts and continue, their firm support for Planned Parenthood. Women insist we vote for Hillary because she is a woman. How can people believe someone is for the good of women when they ignore the selling of body parts of the millions of babies who have died – at least half of which would be women of today. Surely the richest country in history could find a better solution to problem pregnancies than killing the baby. If you are Catholic, consider an extra Mass a week until November to ask our Lord to intercede. If you are Christian, pray for your country. Today the lies are the truth and the truth is too harsh to endure. We must all pray that our good God will send us the grace to wake up to reality and encourage all good people to vote and give the U.S. the president we need – not the one we deserve for closing our eyes to the evils we have refused to speak out against.

Sincerely,

Annette Corrigan

Real Patriots?

You know, there's actual video footage of Donald Trump saying that Hillary Clinton was a good Secretary of State and would make a good President.  (It's on YouTube if you don't believe me.  Enter "Trump praises Hillary, dismisses Benghazi" in the Search box.)  For once, I agree with you, Donzo.  I don't know why her campaign isn't using it as an ad, since it makes him look like either a lying phony or a flighty idiot when he says the opposite today.

So, when his campaign has consistently said and done such awful things, far too many to mention, it makes me recall something that George Will said when this whole insanity had barely begun:  "If Donald Trump's purpose were to destroy the Republican Party, what would he be doing differently?"  And it makes me feel that he's been trying his level best to LOSE this election all along, but the crazies won't let him!  Every time he says or does something awful  (insults, bigotry, flip-flopping, profanity, provocation of violence, even fawning over dictators) they simply love it.

Of course, all this insanity is not a proper basis for sensible policy.  Maybe that's the idea.  Several Trump supporters have admitted that they're supporting him just to destroy everything.  Even RNC Chairman "Florida" Priebus used the phrase "blow up Washington" twice in one day, on two Sunday news shows, to characterize what Trump would do.

Is that what people really want?  Not me.  I want the next President to make things better, not ruin everything.  Yet Republicans/Tea Partiers/Trumpistas have the conceit that they're of superior patriotism to those rotten Democrats.  Oh really?  At least we won't let Vladimir Putin select our next leader for us.

Let me conclude with a quote from another rotten Democrat:  "Patriotism is not a short and frenzied burst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of  a lifetime."  Some people live by these words.  Others find it easier to just wave a lot a flags, spew hate, and assail their opponents' alleged deficiency when it comes to patriotism.  Yeah, those who want to bring everything crashing down, THEY'RE the real Patriots!

Sincerely,

Rotten Tomatoes

The Democratic National Convention put on quite a show. It was a scripted monolog recited by Khizr Khan, the father of American Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed in Afghanistan 12 years ago.

The reading enthralled the media. They ran with it for a week. But after a line-by-line examination and rebuttal, its razzle-dazzle faded to a matte gray.

KHAN: “Tonight, we are honored to stand here as the parents of Capt. Humayun Khan, and as patriotic American Muslims with undivided loyalty to our country.”

REPLY: No one could fault his opening. Capt. Khan put himself in harm's way to protect the men under his command. For this, he sacrificed his life. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star for “conspicuous bravery and heroism.”

We honor Mr. and Mrs. Khan and sympathize with them for their loss. However, we also join with the 2,382 (to date) American families who, like you, mourn for their sons fallen on the fields of Afghanistan. Mr. Khan, those families should not have been ignored. Their loss is as great as yours.

KHAN: “We came to this country empty-handed. We believe in American democracy.”

REPLY: All well and good. But why did you leave Pakistan an Islamic paradise where 95 percent of the population is Muslim, and 80 percent believe and practice Sharia law?

KHAN: “If it was up to Donald Trump, he [Capt. Khan] never would have been in America.”

REPLY: We do not know how many Muslims would be admitted into the U.S. in a Trump presidency. But we do know that if your family stayed in Pakistan, your son would still be alive. As it is, he was killed by your fellow Muslims.

KHAN: “Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities---women, judges, even his own party leadership.”

REPLY: Trump does not smear or disrespect others as you have smeared and disrespected him. Neither does he besmirch the character of Muslims; they do a credible job of that by themselves.

KHAN: “He vows to build walls and ban us from his country.”

REPLY: The wall, Mr. Khan, is to prevent illegal immigration and drug smuggling. It is not to “ban” Muslims. Currently, 250,000 Muslims a year are admitted into the U.S.

KHAN: “Donald Trump, let me ask you: Have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. In this document, look for the words 'liberty' and 'equal protection of law.'”

REPLY: Thank you, Mr. Khan. I would like to borrow your copy of the Constitution. My copy seems incomplete. The constitutional rights of “liberty” and “equal protection of law” to foreign nationals seems to be missing.

But there is a larger question. Mr. Khan, you are a devout Muslin; an acknowledged expert in Islamic law. You wrote: “The invariable rules of Islamic law are prescribed in the Sharia. All other juridical works must always be subordinated to the Sharia.”

According to your words, sir, that includes the U.S. Constitution as well as all national laws.

And Mrs. Khan, she stood by your side silent as stone. Was she afraid of being beaten for “unseemly behavior” according to Sharia law?

KHAN: “Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery? Go look at the graves of brave patriots; you will see all faiths, genders, and ethnicities.”

REPLY: And is this not where your son was interred in 2004?

KHAN: “You [Donald Trump] have sacrificed nothing and no one.”

REPLY: But why single out Mr. Trump? Someone else who has “sacrificed nothing and no one” is Trump's running mate, Mike Pence. And should we not also include Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, who also “have sacrificed nothing?”

KHAN: “We can't solve our problems by building walls and sowing division.”

REPLY: Mr. Khan, as a lawyer who specializes in international trade with Islamic nations, we realize that the economic impact of a border wall on you would be considerable. But the safety of our citizens comes first. We wish to avoid the problems that Muslim immigration have created in France, Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark.

KHAN: “And we [Muslims] will keep getting stronger when Hillary Clinton becomes our next president.”

REPLY: Since Hillary is for open borders and fast-tracking amnesty, indeed, Muslims will keep getting stronger.

So ended Mr. Khan's heated performance. Though his recitation was thoroughly rehearsed it suffered by playing fast and loose with the facts, was melodramatic, shamelessly partisan, and padded with irrelevancies. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 15 percent, equivalent to a box office flop.

Sincerely,
