Chief Oil & Gas Sponsors Students
On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, Mike Rowe will be the featured speaker at The Workforce Summit in Hershey, PA. He is an avid supporter of career and technical education and is well known as the host of Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs”. In 2011, he testified before the U.S. Senate about the importance of supporting technical education. “I believe we need a national PR Campaign for Skilled Labor. A big one. Something that addresses the widening skills gap head on, and reconnects the country with the most important part of our workforce. Closing the skills gap doesn't just benefit future tradesmen and the companies desperate to hire them. It benefits people like me, and anyone else who shares my addiction to paved roads, reliable bridges, heating, air conditioning, and indoor plumbing. The skills gap is real, and it's getting wider. [Skilled workers are] retiring fast, and no one is there to replace them.”
Chief Oil and Gas LLC has graciously agreed to sponsor six Susquehanna County Career & Technology students so that they may attend this event. Dr. Alice M. Davis, SCCTC Executive Director said, “This is just one of numerous contributions made by Chief Oil and Gas in an effort to support career and technical education.” Attending are the SCCTC SkillsUSA officers: Kenneth Brittingham, Jonathan Baltzley, Noah Cobb and Kiera Merritt. Also attending are Alyssa Sickler and Adrianna Meaders who were the first and second place winners of the SCCTC’s “What is your favorite thing about SCCTC?” contest. Accompanying the students are Instructors Bruce Castelli and Kim Cosklo and SCCTC Executive Director Dr. Alice M. Davis.
