On December 19th, Santa Claus arrived at the Hallstead/Great Bend Library Location, and, due to the lack of snow in our area, it was not with his usual sleigh and eight trusty reindeer, but with a handsome horse named "Finale" and a stylish carriage. Santa (Library Board Member and owner of NEP, Steven Tourje) greeted over 90 people and listened to many children's wish lists.

Pictured is the Hallstead Borough Building and Hallstead/Great Bend Library Location in the background, Santa Claus (Steven Tourje) poses by the Golden Heart Carriage loaded with passengers, its sturdy steed, "Finale" and County Commissioner Alan Hall.
This event would not have been possible without the assistance and generosity of Hallstead Borough, who provided the refreshments, Carl Tanner and Roland Tompkins who set up and ran the model train display, Bridgewater Church Members and Library Friends who volunteered their time and talents, the "Golden Heart Carriage Service" and "Finale" who offered rides around the area to the delight of attendees and last, but not least, Santa Claus, who posed for photos with the young and the young-at-heart. There is one fervent wish--that this event will be held again next December.
The December 16th meeting of the New Milford Township supervisors included a tax announcement. Prior to that time, however, other matters of business were dealt with.
It was announced that propane, diesel fuel, gas, calcium for dust control, and a variety of road material were to be put out for bid. The bids were scheduled to be opened at the February meeting.
Speaking of bids, one bid had been received for the forklift. The supervisors chose to accept the bid from Hanks and Boots, for $3,500.
As usual, notifications had been received. There was a subdivision mentioned, which basically involved swapping lots. The supervisors had no objection and planned to send the regular letter. Another subdivision was noted, which appeared to be just sub dividing out what used to be a dance studio.
An update was given on the Tennessee Gas Line. On November 20th an application was filed for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the project with FERC (the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee). Notification letters were sent to all landowners who would be affected along the project route. If approved, the company wouldn't need any easements or anything.
The treasurer's report was not reviewed, it was expected to be ready for the reorganization meeting in January. This meeting was scheduled for Monday, January 7th at 7:00 pm, with the regular meeting to follow.
The supervisors announced that they were going to drop property taxes and real estate taxes another quarter mill. This was to be the fourth year of such a decrease. They also stated that they would dissolve the $5 per capita tax.
