AAA Senior Picnic

The 40th Annual Senior Picnic will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Troy Fairgrounds (Alparon Park) from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This year’s picnic theme is “Down Home on the Farm”. Informational booth exhibitors, free health screenings, bingo and a picnic lunch. Seniors are invited to attend and join in the fun.

A picnic lunch of slow roasted pulled pork barbeque sandwich, molasses baked beans, macaroni salad, fresh fruit salad, vanilla ice cream and beverage will be available. There is a small donation requested to help cover meal costs.

Individuals interested in attending the picnic are asked to contact the Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-982-4346 (toll-free) by June 15, 2015 to make meal reservations.

Beekeeper To Talk At Free Picnic

The Susquehanna County Forest Landowner’s Association (SCFLOA) will be holding its annual summer picnic at Salt Springs State Park at 5:00 pm, June 27. The guest speaker will be Jim Perkins, Program Chairman for the Susquehanna County Beekeepers Association. The talk will be on beekeeping - how to get started, honeybees, pollinators, flowering plants/trees and the local environment. Mr. Perkins resides in Liberty Township and is relatively new to beekeeping. Mr. Perkins has 9 hives in two different locations in Liberty and Franklin Twps.

SCFLOA Board of Director member Jeremy Wagner stated, “The Forest Landowners Association has changed the day (Saturday) and the time (5 pm) of the picnic to better reflect opportunities for families for a real picnic atmosphere at a great local State Park. Our association wants to use this as a fun and educational outreach to all of the public”. SCFLOA will be providing burgers, sausages, rolls, beverages plastic ware and paper plates. All of those planning to eat should plan to be there at 5 pm for the meal. Attendees are requested to bring a covered dish to pass and serving utensils. The talk is scheduled to begin around 6 pm. After the talk there will be opportunities for hiking the trails, wading in the clean stream water, viewing the waterfalls and checking out the new buildings and plantings.

Anyone interested in honeybees, pollinators, bees and flowering plants and trees is invited to this event along with the members of SCFLOA, the Wayne-Lackawanna Forest Landowners and the Bradford/Sullivan Forest landowners Association. There is no charge to attend the event. On Your Mark, Get Set, Register!

With a little more than 40 days left, the Susquehanna Community Development Association, in coordination with the Borough of Susquehanna Depot, would like to remind you about the second annual“5K RUN/WALK” that is scheduled, as a special part of “Hometown Days”, to commence on July 18th.

If you participated in 2014, you are aware of how much fun, camaraderie, and friendship is afoot on the streets of our fair Borough. The “Start location” is at the Susquehanna Community School grounds, 3192 Turnpike Street, Susquehanna, Pa., with the “Finish line” located at the Borough Building, 83 Erie Boulevard, Susquehanna. A transportation van will be provided, courtesy of the Barnes-Kasson Hospital, so you have your choice of parking at either the school location, or the Borough Building. Sign-in/Registration will begin promptly at 7:00 am, where you will pick up your race bib. A free T-shirt will be given to the first 100 runners/walkers to register. The starting pistol will sound at 9:00 am. The Race Entry Fee is as follows: $15.00 per runner/walker or $55.00 for a party of 4. Please note that all four names must be registered in at once. There are fourteen Age Categories within the 5K RUN/WALK. They are: MALES-Age 0-19, Age 20-29, Age 30-39, Age 40-49, Age 50-59, Age 60-69 and Age 70+. FEMALES - Age 0-19, Age 20-29, Age 30-39, Age 40-49, Age 50-59, Age 60-69 and Age 70+. There are even prizes for "Top Runner/Walker With Stroller" and "Top Runner/Walker with Pet (Dog)--Note: All Dogs must be licensed and on leashes for the 5K Run/Walk. Prizes for this year's 5K Run/Walk will be beautiful Bluestone Train Cars.

A new addition has been added for this year’s race. Would your office or, perhaps an organization you belong to, be up for a challenge and a prize of $100.00 to be shared? Well, if this is so, gather your gang together and sign up. The non-profit group with the most participants wins $100.00 and bragging rights for their office or organization. The only stipulation is that there must be a minimum of 5 people to qualify as a group. Participants representing your organization or office would include members, member’s children, grandchildren, parents, friends, etc. As a group, you may pre-register, but group members’ names will be taken all together on the morning of the race. All proceeds will benefit the S.C.D.A. programs within the community of Susquehanna Depot. Registration forms may be downloaded from the Borough’s website at: www.susquehannaborough.com. Senator Lisa Baker Announces Hours

Field Representative Tom Yoniski will be available for consultation from 1:30 – 3:30 pm on Tuesday, June 16th at the Lenox Township Municipal Building, 222 State Route 2016, Nicholson. He will also be available from 10 a.m.-noon at the Forest City Borough Building, 535 Main St., Forest City, on Thursday, June 18.

While appointments are recommended, walk-ins are welcome. 

Constituents are encouraged to visit with any questions or problems relating to state matters and no appointment is necessary though they can be scheduled. Concerns may also be addressed by visiting Senator Baker’s district office at 22 Dallas Shopping Center, Dallas, by visiting her website at www.senatorbaker.com or by calling (570) 675-3931.
