The Blue Ridge PTO is celebrating. Thanks to a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant, the organization can move forward with the Blue Ridge School District on plans to provide an Outdoor Learning area for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. “We are happy that Lowe’s sees our project as one that is worthy of supporting,” said Danielle Buchanan, PTO President. “This is something that will benefit families for years to come.”
The idea is to improve the outdoor playground area currently used by Blue Ridge’s Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms. The space includes playground equipment and a large blacktop area. After meeting with school teachers and administrators, plans were designed for an outdoor classroom and painted mural. The problem was cost. Despite parent support and fundraising, the PTO was still about $5000 short of its goal. No more. The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant covers the budget shortfall.
Final design work is now underway with construction planned for the summer.
