On Sunday, March 1st, at 3 p.m., the Harford Congregational UCC will host the St. David's Male Chorus in concert. The St. David's Male Chorus was organized in 1949 in Scranton by Mr. William Hughes, a native of Wales. The chorus is patterned after traditional male choruses in Wales. Today, as always, the chorus is composed of men from several national backgrounds. The love of singing is the only requirement for joining. The chorus is not affiliated with any church or religious group, but is named after St. David, the patron saint of Wales. The chorus has been active throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania since its beginning. The chorus sings for civic and social organizations, retirement and nursing homes, and provides entertainment at many luncheons and banquets. The chorus' repertoire includes show tunes, patriotic songs, folk songs, Christmas music during the holiday season, and well known Welsh melodies.
The choir's director is Mrs. Frances Justin. The accompanist is Mr. Gene Hopkins, who is organist and choir director at Hickory Street Presbyterian Church in Scranton. There will be a free will offering. This is a community outreach program and all are welcome to attend. Welsh cookies, tea and coffee will follow the concert. Rob Fisher and his sister, RaeBelle Albeck, will offer an organ/piano concert from 2:30-3 p.m.
