Montrose Senior Is Scholar Of Year

Senior Marisa Vanness has been selected as Montrose Area High School Scholar of the Year. Her radio interview will take place Sunday, January 4 at 12:00 pm on the University of Scranton Radio Station WUSR-99.5 FM. The Scholar of the Year Program is sponsored by the Northeast Educational Intermediate Unit #19 and WUSR - 99.5 FM. One senior student from each high school in the intermediate unit is selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership, and citizenship. In addition to the broadcast interviews, the scholars and their parents will be honored with a banquet at the end of the school year.
Marisa is the daughter of Richard and Nancy Vanness of Little Meadows. Marisa is involved in many school and community activities. She is a very talented young lady with many awards and achievements both in the classroom and the community. As part of our school community, Marisa has been secretary of the Student Council and is currently President and is a representative on the Student Liaison Committee. She is also a member of the Advanced Placement Club, Ski Club, Book Club, National Honor Society, Friends of Rachel and IONs (Chemistry Club). Marisa has participated yearly in Read Across America, Poetry Out Loud and the Be the Hero Campaign against bullying. She volunteers in our school Library and does the school announcements daily.
Utilizing her talents, Marisa has been in the Drama Club and Chorus and has been chosen to represent our school for the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Forum and the Scholastic Team as well as earning Student of the Month status. In addition to her busy academic and extracurricular day, Marisa works part-time as a camp counselor and caretaker of horses and performs in summer theater groups. Marisa plans to attend the Pennsylvania State University and major in International Relations. We are proud to present Marisa as the Montrose Area High School Scholar of the Year for 2014-2015.

Caring & Citizenship At Blue Ridge

In the spirit of the holiday season, Mr. Woodruff’s Blue Ridge Elementary School Second Grade class made cards for all of the patients and residents at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, PA. The students learned positive lessons in caring and citizenship and hopefully brightened some people’s holidays.

LVC Dean's List
Lebanon Valley College has announced its Dean's List recipients for the fall 2014 semester. Dean's list students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.4 out of 4.0. Of the 699 students who made the list, local honorees include:
David Corbin of Hop Bottom, a graduate of Mountain View High School pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology.
Michael Wakalowski of Harford, a graduate of Mountain View High School pursuing a bachelor of arts in economics and political science.
