Extension To Offer Food For Profit Have you ever been told that your favorite homemade bread, or salsa, is “good enough to sell?” Do you have additional fruit or vegetables from your farm or home garden that you would like to make into a commercial product? Penn State Extension’s Food for Profit, is a one-day workshop to help you work through the maze of local and state regulations, food safety issues, and business management concepts that all must be considered in setting up a commercial food business. The course will take place at the Penn State Extension, Bradford County Office, 200 Main Street, Suite 3, Towanda, PA on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Food for Profit will take you, step-by-step through the entrepreneurial process. It will provide you with the information and skills to assess if your idea will be something that will sell at a profit. Conducting a feasibility study (to see if yours is a good business idea), performing marketing research, and beginning to draft a business plan are a few of the concrete tools taught by certified instructors and business experts. By attending this class, you can learn how to evaluate the opportunities on paper before you look for funding or take action (saving money and time). If you want to develop the skills to be innovative and visionary in your business - to grow your food venture - you will enjoy and benefit from this course. If you’re searching for innovative ideas about how to get your enterprise off the ground, this program is for you. Registration Information: Food for Profit will meet from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Penn State Extension, Bradford County Office, 200 Main Street, Suite 3, Towanda PA. Pickett Satellite Office Schedule In an effort to ensure residents have easier access to state government, Rep. Tina Pickett (R Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) will hold her satellite office hours in Sullivan and Susquehanna counties in January. “With the new year comes new information about state programs and services and a number of new laws taking effect,” Pickett said. “That type of information will be made more easily available to residents in Sullivan and Susquehanna counties during satellite office hours in Lawton and Laporte.” Pickett’s staff will be at the Heft’s Buy & Sell (formerly Flynn’s Consignment Shop), which is located along State Route 706 in Lawton, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, Jan. 14 and Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Likewise, Pickett noted the Sullivan County office hours will be held on the first and third Wednesdays, Jan. 7 and Jan. 21, at the commissioners’ office in the courthouse from 10 a.m. until noon. To help veterans in the northern area of Bradford County, Pickett’s Sayre district office will host free veterans assistance hours provided by the American Legion Service Officer Outreach Program on the third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The date for this month will be Jan. 15. As part of the outreach, Gina Svoboda, a department service officer with the American Legion, can help with compensation, pension, death benefits, education and health care, as well as any issues pertaining to benefits for veterans. Veterans do not need to be a member of the American Legion to receive these services. Appointments can be made by calling Pickett’s Sayre office at (570) 888-9011. Pickett’s full-time offices are located at 321 Main St., Towanda, phone (570) 265-3124 and 106 West Packer Ave., Sayre, phone (570) 888-9011. More information is available 24 hours a day on Pickett’s website at www.RepPickett.com or on her Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/RepPickett.
