Forestry Group Talk On Whitetail Deer

Susquehanna County Forest Land Owners Association (SCFLOA) presents an informational talk about Whitetail Deer and Their Impact upon Pennsylvania Forests.

Dave Jackson, Forest Resources Educator Penn State Extension-Centre County, will be the guest speaker at the annual SCFLOA dinner meeting. Mr. Jackson's talk is "White-tailed Deer: Pennsylvania’s Keystone Species".

Dave Jackson, guest speaker

His talk covers the following: Deer Habitat Components, Deer Biology, Deer Habitat and Reproduction, Deer Management, Pellet Group Counts & Browse Impact Surveys, Deer Density and Carrying Capacity Workshops.

His areas of expertise are Forest Ecology, Timber Sales, White Tailed Deer, Invasive Plants, Vegetative Management/Herbicides, Silviculture and Youth Environmental Education. SCFLOA President Jim James notes “… this talk by Mr. Jackson is timely as this is the time of year that many people, including forest landowners and hunters are thinking about whitetail deer. Mr. Jackson will blend his talk to include forest perspectives.”

Learn about these topics and more at the SCFLOA annual dinner meeting on Friday, November 21, at the Harford Volunteer Fire Company Fire Hall. Social time begins at 6:00pm; dinner will be served at 7:00pm.  The menu is a full roast beef dinner, topped off with the famous selection of homemade pies by the bakers from the North Jackson Methodist church. There is a cost for the dinner. Guests/non-SCFLOA members are welcome to attend the dinner and presentation.  Reservations should be made by November 18th with Stu Slocum, SCFLOA treasurer, 570-756-2497, slocumsw95@yahoo.com.
