Moose Sponsors Cupcake Debate

The Great Cupcake Debate was held on Sunday, November 2, 2014, from Noon – 3:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge 794, Susquehanna. Amount of money raised was $1,570.00 and coordinating the event was Kim Keyes.

The purpose/cause was to raise money for the various charities that our local Moose Lodge 794 donates to.  The recipients of this year's fundraiser donations are Mooseheart and Moosehaven.  Mooseheart is is a residential childcare facility, located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago. The Child City is a home for children and teens in need, from infancy through high school.  Mooseheart cares for youth whose families are unable, for a wide variety of reasons, to care for them. Some have lost one or both parents; others are living in environments that are simply not conducive to healthy growth and development. Whatever the reason, the men and women of the Moose, through unparalleled generosity and volunteerism, furnish the resources necessary to care for children in need. The Moose fraternity provides children with a wholesome home-like environment and the best possible training and education.

Moosehaven is known as the City of Contentment and is located in Orange Park, FL.  As a Continuing Care Retirement Community, Moosehaven offers independent living for seniors 65 years of age and older, and promotes an active lifestyle on a campus full of amenities and services.  Moosehaven's LifeCare Center provides all levels of health care.  The Loyal Order of the Moose and Women of the Moose, along with Moosehaven, continue to demonstrate their support and abiding concern for the well being of Moose members and their spouses in their senior years.

Bakers from across the area baked their best recipes in hope of winning best cupcake honors, cash prizes, and bragging rights (at least until next year). The Moose Lodge opened its doors to the public for people to come in, sample the cupcakes, and vote for their favorite.  Contestants submitted their best cupcake to the judges for them to judge 4 categories of cucpakes and the people voted on their favorite for the last category.

This year's sponsors were The Depot Restaurant, Dave Dibble Construction, Creative Crayons Child Care Center, Mike Decker Logging, Hinds Energy, Myron DeWitt Attorney at Law, Culnane's Garage, and a Anonymous Donor.
