Kaleidoscope 4-H Club
Submitted by Kim Grace
Recently, the Kaleidoscope 4-H Club met at Rascal Fair Farm in Thompson. We observed the tagging of a young goat who is enrolled in the scrapie program. We discussed the importance of keeping your goat healthy and what scrapie disease is. We also talked about what is needed as far as ear tags and health certificates to show your animal at the Harford Fair.
Our next topic of discussion was fundraising ideas to benefit our 4-H group. A number of ideas were talked about, such as selling candy, baked goods or crafts. Stay tuned to see what fundraising idea we come up with.
Rascal Fair Farm is now home to 4 new lambs and our group got to play with them. We learned about their wool and how to keep them healthy. Our group members will be showing sheep this year at the Harford Fair in August. In fact, we will be taking a field trip to the Wayne County Fair to see how sheep are handled at a fair. Next year we will focus on market goats.
As always, we welcome new members. Please contact Sharon at 570-677-3774, Diane at 570-878-2448 or follow us on facebook at Kaleidoscope 4-H.

PA’s First NRA 3GE A Success
Submitted by Ed Arzouian
The Canawacta Rod & Gun Club held Pennsylvania’s first and so far only NRA .22 3GE (Three Gun Experience) event last month. The events are open to the general public and the next event, the second of four, will be held on Sunday, July 27 again at the club’s grounds on Oak Hill Road, 3.5 miles north of Susquehanna/Oakland, PA.
Unlike other three-gun shoots these new NRA-sanctioned events welcome participants of all ages and skill levels. The firearms used, .22LR semi-auto guns and rifles, are of a smaller caliber than typical shoots. While participants can compete against one another if they like there is also an educational component for youths and adults. To facilitate that, loaner firearms are available for instruction and provided for the event to those who want to try them or who may not have all of three required.
3-Gun competitions have experienced a meteoric rise in popularity over the past few years. NRA Sports Program Specialist Samantha Olsen explains, “In fact, it's the fastest-growing action shooting sports in the world. The NRA, wanting to bring the fun, exhilarating, physical challenge to new and intermediate shooters, is introducing NRA Sports 3-Gun Shooting Events. Safe, mildly competitive, and fun for the whole family, these recreational experiences have something for everyone. Given the ever rising popularity an AirSoft or .22 version of the sport provides young or inexperienced shooters an opportunity to compete."
On Sunday, July 27, registration opens at 11AM, the event runs until about 3PM. For more information, including directions to the club and rules of the event, visit: www.canawacta.weebly.com or call 570-396-5033 or 607-343-1859.

Beta Rho Chapter Remembers, Installs
Submitted by Cindy Reynolds
The Beta Rho Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its last meeting of the biennium in New Milford at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Hall. The chapter membership is composed of women educators from Bradford, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties. President Carol Goodman conducted the business meeting which included plans for the chapter’s 30th birthday celebration at the State Convention in State College in June.
Immediately following the business meeting two special ceremonies were conducted, one was a Celebration of Life Service and the other was the installation of the new officers. A very touching ceremony of remembrance for former members Mary McCormick and Joan O. Peters was conducted along with a display of the scrapbooks with photos of these two ladies. Members involved in the service included Agnes Massacesi, Jeanette Saulo, Rose Borgna, Nancy Simon, Pat Arnold, and Carol Goodman who shared poems, words of inspiration and personal anecdotes about Joan and Mary. Sue Lee played the piano for the ceremony. A special guest and long-time friend of Joan’s, Barbara Kelly, participated by sharing her eulogy which delivered at the funeral. The membership was moved by the meaningful tribute as they reflected on both Mary’s and Joan’s contributions not only to the chapter but also to education.

Pictured are the installation of the officers for the Beta Rho Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Hall in New Milford. Pictured from left to right are Co-Presidents Sheri Wolfe and Jeanette Saulo, First Vice President Ann Gay, Second Vice President Nancy Simon, Recording Secretary Barbara Davis, Corresponding Secretary Pat Carpenter, Treasurer Carol Davis, and Parliamentarian Immediate Past President Carol Goodman.
The following officers for the 2014-2016 biennium were then installed with Cindy Reynolds presiding at the table of the Society’s symbolic items: co-presidents Jeanette Saulo and Sheri Wolfe; first vice president Ann Gay; second vice president Nancy Simon; corresponding secretary Pat Carpenter; continuing recording secretary Barbara Davis; continuing treasurer Carol Davis; and parliamentarian, immediate past president Carol Goodman. The membership then congratulated the newly installed officers and pledged their support to each of the ladies.
Members were encouraged to attend the Alpha Alpha State Conference in State College when the Beta Rho Chapter will be recognized for its 30th birthday. A covered dish picnic will be held at Mary Ann Cunningham’s home in Montrose on July 17th at which time materials will be transferred to the new officers and committee chairs. The International Convention was also announced which is in Indianapolis July 28th through August 1st. The next chapter meeting will be held at Dreyer Hall at the Montrose Bible Conference on Thursday, October 2, with the business meeting at 5:45 PM and dinner immediately following. The program for the meeting will be the initiation of new members and honorary chapter member, Barbara L. Kelly.

North Jackson Ag 4-H Club Update
Submitted by News Reporter: KayLeen Conklin
On Friday, June 27th 2014 the North Jackson Ag 4-H club held a meeting at the Pavelski’s Farm. Emily Supancik opened the meeting. Alex Empet led the pledge to the American flag. Adriana Zebrowski lead the pledge to the 4-H flag. The treasurer’s report was read by our president, Emily Supancik, due to the absence of our club treasurer, Sam Jones. Jamie Supancik gave the secretary’s report. Both reports were approved.
State 4-H Achievement Days will be held July 28th through 30th. Every Tuesday in July at 6:00 P.M. our club will be painting the dairy/beef barn. This is a great community service to participate in. There will be a community service incentive again this year. To take part in this this year print off the form online, and turn it in by August 8th 2014. At our club picnic we will be putting together a tri-fold based on our club’s community service. July 26th is Dairy Roundup. Our club will be serving breakfast and lunch to raise money. Donating baked goods (pies, cookies, etc.), and volunteering to help on this day is much appreciated. A reminder was given that it is not too early for livestock members to talk to buyers and for dairy members to talk to sponsors.
During our meeting Heidi Cross and Emory Bewley both gave a demonstration. Heidi gave hers on shooting sports. Emory gave hers on cake decorating.
