Blue Ridge Art At The Everhart

Congratulations to eight Blue Ridge Elementary students, from Sarrah Dibble-Camburn's art class.  They will be showing their artwork at the Everhart Museum this summer. Their art was chosen out of several entries.

Many students created "shark themed" artwork that was sent to the Everhart to be part of a juried show.  Titled, Shiver of Sharks, the exhibit will be held in Gallery One and open to the public on July 5th.  The Blue Ridge students range from first, second, and third grade.

Elk Lake Elementary Students Of Month

Dr. Kenneth Cuomo, Elementary Principal at the Elk Lake School, is pleased to announce the May, 2014 Student of the Month Award winners.

Students in fifth and sixth grade were selected by their homeroom teachers.  Students may be selected as student of the month from four different areas.  Those four areas are academic achievement, attendance, citizenship and most improved.

Elk Lake is proud of their students and congratulates them for their accomplishments.

Blue Ridge Elem. Spelling Bee Winners

Blue Ridge Elementary held its annual oral spelling bee for fourth and fifth grade students on Wednesday, June 4th.  Ninety-nine fourth and fifth graders chose to take the written qualifying test that was held on May 28th.  After the qualifying round, ten fourth graders and twelve fifth graders, placed to compete in the oral bee.

Elk Lake High Perfect Attendance

Six students won Nexus Tablets for having perfect attendance for at least one marking period this school year at Elk Lake High School.

A drawing was held for each grade with the lucky winner receiving a tablet.  The tablets were purchased by the ELESPA, ELEA, Elk Lake School Board and Elk Lake School administrators.

Oral Reading Contest At Blue Ridge

The tradition of students in grades one through five reading on stage and being judged on their fluency, expression, articulation, and overall impression continues at Blue Ridge Elementary.  The annual Oral Reading Contest took place, Friday, May 23rd.  Eight to ten students from each grade level presented themselves onstage and read from a selection they had practiced and then were given a cold read, something they read for the first time.

The Oral Reading Contest provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their oral reading ability along with stage presence, projection, and animation of word delivery.  What a great experience and opportunity for all the readers!  Blue Ridge Elementary is very proud of each participant for it is quite an honor to be selected as a reader!  First, second, and third places were awarded at each grade level.  Congratulations to all the participants and winners listed below.

David Corbin Makes LVC Dean's List

David Corbin of Hop Bottom, Pa., was among the 623 Lebanon Valley College students named to the Dean's List for high academic marks in the spring semester. Dean's list students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.4 out of 4.0.

Corbin, a graduate of Mountain View High School, made the list while pursuing a bachelor of science in biology.

Joseph Marchese from Forest City, PA, is among the 548 students who earned dean's list honors for the spring 2014 semester at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Joseph, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Marchese made dean's list by maintaining a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

Kutztown University has released the names of the 2014 Spring Semester Dean's List. The list includes 1,759 students. To be eligible for Dean's List, an undergraduate student must be registered for at least 12 credits and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60.

Locals Graduate Univ. Of Vermont

Some 2,904 students were awarded a variety of bachelor's degrees during the University of Vermont's 213th Commencement ceremonies on May 18. There were some 575 advanced degrees and certificates awarded by the UVM Graduate College and approximately 106 women and men took the oath of Hippocrates following the awarding of their M.D. degrees at ceremonies of the UVM College of Medicine.

The University of Scranton conferred 48 doctor of physical therapy degrees and 668 master’s degrees at its post-baccalaureate commencement on May 31, 2014 in the Byron Recreation Complex.

Madison Button Makes E. C. Dean's List

Elizabethtown (Pa.) College announces the names of students whose outstanding academic performances have earned them recognition on the spring 2014 dean's list.

Madison Button, a sophomore music therapy major from Hallstead, is included.

To earn this recognition, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.60 or better in 14 or more credit hours, of which at least 12 credits are letter-graded course work. Only Elizabethtown's full-time undergraduate students are eligible for this distinction.
