DTE Energy Expands Bluestone Pipeline

DTE Energy's Gas Storage and Pipeline segment has secured long-term gathering commitments with Southwestern Energy Co. and Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. which will significantly expand the Bluestone Pipeline.

"The stronger than expected performance of Marcellus reserves in Susquehanna County continues to drive the need for additional infrastructure," said Richard Redmond, executive vice president, DTE Gathering and Processing. "We are excited to further grow our relationship with Southwestern Energy."

The incremental Bluestone Pipeline capacity is supported by long-term agreements with minimum term commitments ranging from 10 to15 years. Once in-service, the expansion facilities will increase the capacity of the Bluestone Pipeline from 600,000 Dth/day to 975,000 Dth/day, a greater than 60% increase in capacity since the gathering system first came online in late 2012.

The 44.5 mile Bluestone Pipeline and Gathering system can currently transport up to 600,000 Dth/day combined to both the Millennium Pipeline in Broome County, N.Y. and the Tennessee Gas Pipeline in Susquehanna County, Pa.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand our gathering services in Susquehanna County to Cabot Oil & Gas," said Redmond.

Jodi Cordner, District Judge

The week-long instructional program is designed to ensure that Magisterial District Judges remain current in a variety of legal topics and management techniques required to fairly adjudicate cases and effectively supervise a district court office. Included in this year’s curriculum are updates on the Vehicle Code, Civil Law Update, Landlord/Tenant Law, Local Ordinances, Home Improvement Act and RV Parks, Commercial Sexual Exploitation – Human Trafficking, Act 112 Procedures, Penalties and Alternative Sentencing for Youth & Tobacco Cases, Ethics, Understanding Criminal History for Purposes of Setting/Amending Bail, Electronic Monitoring and Modes of Bail, Internal Controls, Restitution, Expungements, Out of County Warrants & Indirect Criminal Complaint Warrants, Criminal Law Update, Notarizing Protocol and Home Improvement Fraud Act, Case File Destruction, Public Access, Abandonment, Default Procedures and Right to Counsel in Summary Dispositons, Bankruptcy, Computer Facilitated Crimes and Truancy Update, Judges’ Concerned for Judges, and Sexting, Cyber bullying and Viral Shaming.

Continuing education course work is required by statute of each of more than 500 Pennsylvania Magisterial Judges, with approximately 50 Magisterial District Judges attending one of 13 such classes during each academic year.

Magisterial District Judges represent the “grass roots” level of Pennsylvania’s judicial system. In counties other than Philadelphia, Magisterial District Judges have jurisdiction over summary, criminal and motor vehicle cases; landlord/tenant matters; and other civil actions where the amount claimed does not exceed $12,000. Magisterial District Judges may also accept guilty pleas in misdemeanor cases of the third degree under certain circumstances. Magisterial District Judges also have jurisdiction to issue arrest and search warrants and to hold arraignments and preliminary hearings in criminal cases.

Established by Constitution, the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts provide support to the Supreme Court in exercising its supervisory duties over each of the other state courts. The Minor Judiciary Education Board was established by legislative act to administer the continuing legal education program for Magisterial District Judges, Philadelphia Traffic Court Judges and Philadelphia Arraignment Court Magistrates (formerly Bail Commissioners), as well as certifying courses for Magisterial District Judges, Philadelphia Traffic Court Judges and Arraignment Court Magistrates and other initial jurisdiction court judges.

Peter Maloney Is New Eagle Scout

The wind had an awful chill and the sky was a cold grey on Saturday, April 5, but hearts were warm and spirits full of sunshine at the Eagle Scout Ceremony for Peter Maloney. Under the tent next to the east  branch of the Tunkhannock Creek, family, friends, relatives, and fellow folks in Scouting gave Peter moving tributes of his accomplishments in Scouting. Reaching the highest ranch in Boy Scouts is not an easy journey, it is one that requires persistence, courage and support from many people. Peter had that support from his mom and dad, other family members, his Scout Master Jamie Galvin, other members of Troop 98, and Venturing Crew 1001, and many more friends and members of the scouting community.

Peter Maloney

For his Eagle Scout project Peter arranged to have ten memorial apple trees planted on the site of the Clifford Township Historical Society’s renovation project of the Yarns Cider Mill at the Suraci Farm in Clifford Township.  Peter organized the help of his scout troop, Ray Swingle who volunteered his time and heavy equipment to dig holes for the trees, and Jonal’s Garden Center, who supplied the trees at a very affordable cost. This Eagle Scout project was a great help to the Historical Society and will have a lasting effect on our community. With a little help from Mother Nature and a little less help from the local deer herd, these trees will supply apples for the historical society to press into apple cider at the renovated mill- just like one hundred years ago.

Peter is a senior at Mountain View Jr/Sr high School, in college prep courses and has been in boy scouting for ten years. Besides reaching Eagle Scout some of the highlights of Peter’s scout career include his involvement in National Youth Leadership Training for the last three years.  At the Jamboree in West Virginia Peter met the King of Sweden and Mike Lowe of Dirty Jobs—themselves both Scouts. Recently Peter attended Sea Base Camp in the Florida Keys. Scouting opportunities have helped Peter mature and grow into a talented and confident young man that all are very proud of.

Congratulations, Peter, from the Clifford Twp Historical Society.
