Sophie Bartkus

Sophie Bartkus, 89, of Ararat, PA, passed away on Saturday February 22, 2014, at the Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center, Forest City, PA.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Walter Bartkus Sr.; one brother William Chizuk; and one sister Mary Wilkos.

Sophie was survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws Walter and Rose Bartkus, and Larry and Bonnie Bartkus; seven grandchildren, Kireen Slocum, Andrew Bartkus, Kate Jaeger, John Bartkus, Amanda Bartkus, Angela Marquardt, and Brian Marquardt; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister Helen Galica; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sophie had a love for gardening as well as feeding and watching birds. She also loved to cook for her family. Most of all Sophie was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

A Funeral Service was held at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11am with Rev. David Cramer officiating.

Interment will be held in the Ararat Cemetery, Ararat, PA at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rails to Trails Organization, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, The Duke Ellington Building, 2121 Ward Ct, NW, 5th Floor Washington, DC 20037.

Arthur N. Kopp

Arthur N. Kopp, 60, Great Bend, died Thursday at Wilson Memorial Hospital.  He was predeceased by his mother Shirley Virginia Lee.  He is survived by his father Arthur N. Kopp, Sr., daughter Chelsey Kopp, son Loren Kopp, sister Belinda (Gary) Colwell, nephews Gary Jr., and Jason Colwell, many aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews.  Art’s passion was photography and he received his photography degree from Luzerne College.  He specialized in weddings, school sporting events and real estate.  He loved traveling to Myrtle Beach to photograph bike week as well.  He was an avid hunter and camper, loved journalism, blues music and cowboy action shooting.  He attended the Berean Bible Church.   A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1st, at 12:00 PM at the Berean Bible Church, 109 County Road 2, Greene, with Pastor Justin Bleuer officiating.  The family will receive friends at the Berean Bible Church on Saturday at 11:00AM until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Berean Bible Church, 1009 County Road 2, Greene, NY 13778.
