Santa took a few minutes out of his hectic schedule to visit the Creative-Play Preschool. He got many hugs and greetings from the children. The preschoolers sang Christmas songs and danced for Santa.
They took turns on his lap and were all so eager to share their wish lists. The parents and grandparents all enjoyed watching the awe in their children’s eyes.

Pet Of The Week
Submitted by Linda Stuedenmayer
We are still getting many calls regarding cruelty complaints. We do have an officer in the area that will respond. We have received several calls and have had several animals brought to the shelter that were caught in traps. Please treat your animals with care and respect their needs. Do not let them free roam. It is our moral obligation to treat all living things with dignity and kindness. Our pets need limitations and boundaries to keep them safe.
Our pet of the week is Neda. She came in stray with 3 puppies. She needs some love and a responsible home. Two of the puppies have homes and one is looking. Neda is housebroke and quiet. She seems to be waiting for her "person". If you can provide her with stability, a warm home, vet care as needed and love come see her and many others that are available.

Neda
Thank you Reese and everyone who continues to donate food and supplies to True Friends. The heartbeat of the shelter is our community support and volunteers.

Submitted by Robin Cobb
P&G recently completed their 2013-2014 community campaign and United Way of Susquehanna County (UWSC) was fortunate to be on the receiving end of $66,220.64 from both active and retired employees. This figure represented an increase of $2,095.48 versus last year. This total also represents a $15,000 grant that was generously recommended by P&G and made through the P&G Fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation which in total represented a $4,000 increase from last year’s grant.
As the largest contributor to United Way of Susquehanna County, P&G and its employees continue to set the bar high in terms of financial support to UWSC and for advancing the common good among our county’s community members.

Alex Fried, Mehoopany Public Relations, HSE & Energy Affairs Mgr and Kim Merithew, Director of Corporate and Community Giving
"We are delighted to participate in the annual United Way campaign and to send along these results of employee generosity," said Alex Fried, Public Relations, HSE and Energy Affairs Manager. "This year’s campaign was very successful, as our employee giving and corporate gift exceeded $500,000 – a new record – for the 5th year in a row- in our 47 year history of giving to five United Ways in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It was also a year that P&G celebrated its 176 year anniversary, and we are proud of our commitment to helping the communities in which we live and work to prosper."
“United Way was honored to have Alex Fried as the keynote speaker at the campaign kick-off. Alex offered ideas on how local employers could put together a winning campaign strategy that could be adapted to businesses of any size. Through P&G’s generosity, our 23 partner agencies are able to serve those most vulnerable and at risk with programs that offer a hand up. The community as a whole wins when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and when people are healthy,” said Kim Merithew, Director of Corporate and Community Giving, United Way.
In addition, P&G provided computers to United Way partner agencies helping them to cut some costs and to carry out their work more efficiently. To that, we are most grateful.

Yaw Announces New DCNR Grant Program
State Senator Gene Yaw (R-Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Union) encourages municipalities, pre-qualified land trusts, non-profits and other eligible agencies within his Senate District to apply for state recreation and conservation grants through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2).
The C2P2 program provides financial and technical assistance for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects. The program also seeks applications that implement Pennsylvania’s Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan and DCNR’s strategic plan. Funding includes the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener 1) and federal funding sources.
“Last December, almost $1.4 million in C2P2 funding was awarded in my senate district alone,” Yaw said. “I strongly encourage eligible applicants to apply for this funding as a way to improve and preserve our local recreational areas and further ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience and enjoy their appeal.”
Pre-application workshops and webinars will be held across the state in February to assist applicants with submitting proposals. Applicants can sign up at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/Calendar, or contact Yaw’s office for information and assistance.
Yaw added that over the past 20 years the C2P2 program has funded over 4,000 projects that have helped, plan, acquire, and develop parks, recreation facilities, trails, and conserved critical conservation areas and watersheds; supported education and training on conservation and recreation topics; and built conservation, heritage, and recreation partnerships.
Applications will be accepted beginning January 15th through April 16th, 2014.
