The Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association's annual meeting will be held Saturday, November 9th, at 2pm. The meeting will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Hall, 276 Church St., Montrose, PA. The President of the Board of Directors, the Administrator/Librarian, and committee representatives will report on the Association's progress and activities during 2013. Refreshments will be served.
After the business portion of the meeting, the entertainment portion will feature a presentation by George Cummings, historian and local expert on the American Revolution. George was born and raised in Binghamton, New York and was educated at Broome Community College and Binghamton University. Cummings studied the French Indian War and the American Revolution and speaks frequently to groups about the American Revolution. His enthusiasm and vibrant knowledge of the era translates into his demonstrations and makes this an event you will not want to miss. George will be speaking specifically about the role of a Rifleman in the American Revolution and how the weapon’s use evolved in Central Pennsylvania using a display of era weaponry.
The annual meeting marks the start of the Support Drive for 2014. You may receive an envelope and support card in the mail, but forms will be available at the libraries or online at www.susqcolibrary.org/support.Your donations help provide library service across Susquehanna County and support the county museum and genealogy research center.

The Rail-Trail Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, October 24 at the Beacon Restaurant in Union Dale. Dinner will be available from the menu at 6 PM with the meeting following at 7 PM. All are welcome.
Discussed will be trail improvement plans and an update on the bridge redecking project. The importance of the ribbon-cutting event of the Lackawanna Heritage Valley on November 1st will be highlighted.
