Math Counts At Mountain View

Mountain View students in grades 6, 7, and 8 put their math problem solving skills to the test at the annual Math Counts competition sponsored by Northeast PA Society of Engineers at Penn State Worthington. Students competed as a grade 6 team and a grade 7 and 8 team, and individually. Mountain View students received the most improved award.

Students prepared throughout the year for the competition by completing Workouts and Warm-ups encouraging students to solve problems in various ways and to explore the quickest and most efficient ways to arrive at answers.

Mountain View Accepts Challenge At Reading Competition

Mountain View students in grades 6, 7, and 8 accepted the challenge in the fall to read forty selected books for a team competition against other Northeast Pennsylvania schools held at Western Wayne High School this past May. Two teams were fielded, a grade 6 team and a combination grades 7 and 8 team.

Students competed in three rounds against one other team per round, working as a team to answer questions about any of the forty books. Teams with the most accumulated points were recognized. Students are eager to return next year to claim one of the top spots.

Mt. View Students Compete At Brain Bee

Jacob Baranski and Mikaela Phillips represented Mountain View Jr. Sr. High School at the annual Brain Bee at the University of Scranton. This event is co- sponsored by the neuroscience department at the University of Scranton and AHPEC, Area Health Center of Northeast Pennsylvania.

Approximately seventy-five students complete a written exam with the top students advancing to the actual bee. Students take turns orally answering questions about the brain based on the Brain Facts book which can be downloaded from the Society for Neuroscience website. Both Jacob and Mikaelya hope to continue studying and make this an annual event.

Mountain View Fields Odyssey Of Mind Team

Mountain View’s Odyssey of the Mind Division II team placed fifth overall in problem 1, Ooh-Motional Vehicle and second in Style in the regional competition.
