Good News Lunch Celebrates 10 Years

With the ethereal music of the Tunkhannock Dulcimers in the background, 80 guests were hosted at the annual Christmas Dinner of the Good New Lunch at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Milford on Saturday, December 17.

The Rev. Charlie Warwick, Deacon-In-Charge of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, New Milford, joins the serving line at Good News Lunch Christmas Dinner.

The dinner is prepared and served by all the churches in the New Milford area. “For the past ten years, all the churches of our community have worked together to serve a dinner on the third Saturday of the month to our senior citizens and their friends,” reported Lorraine James of St. Lawrence R.C. Church. “We began with a Thanksgiving Dinner in 2002 and have been serving our community every month for the past ten years.”

In 2003 the Good News Lunch (GNL), as it is know in the community, received a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem. “This small grant was the seed money that enabled us to launch the GNL and it has been one of the most effective ecumenical outreach programs in our area,” said Wendy Kekalk, Senior Warden of St. Mark’s.

The 80 guests this year enjoyed a full roast beef dinner served by members of the Tatcher Chapter (Susquehanna County) Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America.

“We look forward to 2012 as we continue our outreach ministry in our community. It will be wonderful to celebrate our 10th anniversary next year - ten years of uninterrupted service by all the congregations in New Milford,” opined Lorraine James.
