Pickett To Host Senior Crime Prevention Seminar TOWANDA - To help senior citizens avoid scams and frauds, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) is hosting two seminars with the Office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General. The seminars, titled the Senior Crime Prevention University, educate older Pennsylvanians and their families about crime prevention using the principles of “Aware, Avoid, Alert.” Residents should feel free to attend the seminar of their choice on Thursday, July 21: 10 a.m. - noon, Ulster Fire Hall, Rescue St., Ulster; 2 - 4 p.m., Sullivan Co. Ag Center, Route 487, Dushore. “Too often, senior citizens are sought-after targets of unscrupulous individuals wishing to take advantage of them,” Pickett said. “I encourage seniors to attend one of the two seminars scheduled in our area and learn about the newest tricks and frauds of scammers.” The seminars will make seniors “aware” of the scams and frauds that are out there, teach them how to “avoid” becoming the next victim, make them “alert” and observant of their surroundings and situations they are facing, and encourage them to report any instances of scam or fraud to their local law enforcement. “Even if a resident has attended one of these programs in the past, I urge them to come out because scammers are all the time trying to keep ahead of investigators and well-informed residents by creating new methods to get a hold of people’s trust and money,” she noted. Admission is free, but Pickett said that reservations are appreciated by calling 570-265-3124, 570-888-9011 or 570-946-7673.
