Pickett’s Annual Senior Expo Set ATHENS - Area senior citizens age 55 and older in the 110th District are invited to attend Rep. Tina Pickett’s (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) 11th annual Senior Expo, to be held Friday, June 24, at the Athens Lynch-Bustin Elementary School. “This event is designed for senior citizens and their families to learn more about public and private programs and services that are available in our communities,” Pickett said. “Each year, the expo continues to grow, and for our 10th annual event last year, nearly 1,500 attended and obtained a wide variety of information.” The expo will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Information will be presented about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, financial planning, fraud protection, and government services. More than 70 exhibitors are expected. Refreshments will be offered, and the school is air conditioned for seniors’ comfort. “This year, our expo will feature the U.S. Veterans Administration’s mobile veterans center, which will be set up outside the school,” Pickett said. “I am very excited for this mobile center to be joining us as it offers a wealth of information and services to our area veterans and their families. I would also like to thank Congressman Tom Marino for his assistance to ensure the center is available for the expo.” Some of the services provided through the mobile center include counseling, medical referrals, assistance in applying for VA benefits, and information and referrals to community resources. The school is located at 253 Pennsylvania Ave. in Athens. From Route 220, take the second Athens Business Exit to Pine Street. Signs will be posted directing participants to school parking. Shuttle services will be provided from the school’s parking lot to the building’s front door. On June 22 the sixth annual Walk For Wellness fundraiser will be held at Mountain View and Montrose Area school tracks. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and runs through 7:00 p.m. The walk benefits Endless Mountains Medical Care Foundation (EMMCF) which in turns supports Endless Mountains Health Systems (EMHS). Much money has been raised since the start of the Walk six years ago, all of which is used to help purchase up-to-date medical equipment. If you have not participated in the Walk in past years’ you have missed an enjoyable, as well as beneficial experience. Each track is a safe walking area with wonderful views. Walkers at Mountain View track, for instance, can view the windmills in Wayne County. Overall chairman of Walk For Wellness is Linda Bonham, manager of Pennstar Bank, Lenox office. She can be reached at 222-3171. Linda coordinates the Walk at Mountain View school track. Coordinating the Walk at Montrose Area school track is Becky and John Sprout. Registration forms are online at www.endlesscare.org and also will be available at each track. Individual walkers or teams of walkers are encouraged to obtain sponsors for their walk or if they wish make a donation of their own to EMMCF. Although the Walk is held for two hours participants can walk anytime during that time for as short or as long as they wish. At Mountain View, track volunteers will be grilling hot dogs which are free to all walkers. The Sprouts will be offering free Subway sandwiches to anyone walking on the Montrose track. Walk For Wellness is a fundraiser to benefit EMMCF but is also is an opportunity to enjoy a safe, healthy walk.
